DX P1

Thanks for your comments, Twaksak.

The pleasure was all mine Stuey

Realy nice art work Twaksak , bee happy like Carlos ....
now, u can try to build the next amplifier

Thanks Alex mm, I have lined up 3 more Dx P1, 2 Elliott P101 and a couple of the professor Leach version 4.5. My idea is to listen to differences CF, EF and three stage darlinton as well as VAS bootstrap vs CCS. Also symmetrical asymetrical and such.

DIY is cool:clown:

Yep... to listen the differences is a real fun to me too

all amplifiers are different, and they behave differently depending the speakers...so... the search is a great fun.

I hope i would never find "the one"..... gladly i use to inspect and i always detect something not perfect... and this is the "key"...so.... discovering amplifiers not perfect, then we will have fun searching for the perfect one... even if the perfect one does not exist.

In the other direction... when we find the one..if the perfect one exists and if we find it...well....the fun finishes.... the big game is over.

I love this one... the Dunlap amplifier....gladly i have found it great..but also i could find something i do not like.... just a small detail....

And this is great!

Picture...i am building the Krill once again...nice amplifier..very nice!

regards,

Carlos

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
, another nice sounding amplifier from Dx Corporation 🙂 more powerful .....😀
regards alex mm .

Alex,a question for you.You send me some PDF-files of this amp are those the real size ready to copy to make a pcb or do I've to change them in size?I gonna try to make a pcb by myself or can I buy some from you?

Patrick

hohohohohoh!.... Precision and DHR Turbo will pump this new speaker

as i am tuning my three way professional high power big speakers.

Tweaking crossover and testing with microphone and white noise.

Yeah!...let's shake the body and crack the house

Sound pressure will be enormous!

20 hertz - 3 db..... 260 watts RMS continuous tested for 5 minutes... the one is really huge..... also do not reproduce mid ranges... stops around 400 hertz... go reducing level when frequency increase...it is more a sub woofer than a woofer.

Carlos

One more local friend has built the Precision 1

I will post in portuguese and will translate:

"Carlos, Seu amplificador precision esta funcionando aqui na oficina, que amplificador do c a c e t e! Meus ouvidos vão ter um orgasmo porra! Que qualidade, grave lindo teu amplificador é bom todo! A placa esta correta não tem erros tudo certinho, quem montar e não funcionar é porque errou. Depois tiro umas fotos dele pra vc ver. Um abraço."

Carlos, your Precision amplifier is operating in my workshop (repairs of audio equipment)... what an amazing amplifier!...my ears will have a sonic orgasm!.. what a quality!... the bass is wonderfull.... the sound is entirelly beautifull... the pcboard has no errors and everything has worked first time try... if someone found problems was his own mistake..no errors.... latter i will produce some pictures and will send you... a friendly hug to you.

The guy's name is Sergio Vaz (portuguese descendent), he lives in the State of Pernambuco (northeast of Brasil) and the place is called Janga

regards,

Carlos

Comparing to many other amplifiers i have, the ones i had, the ones i am trying

I can ensure you that:

The decision to construct a Precision 1 amplifier is a very good idea, for sure will not create regrets in your brain or heart.

Guaranteed!!!... wanna be happy?.... take the schematic and build the unit ... prepare your heart to feel strong emotions.

Do you know how to dance?..... will dance anyway.

have only to increase output transistor quantity and to increase the driver current

and VAS current...and will hold even 1 ohm if needed.

The problem, i think, well this is a local worry...how to find a transformer that will give you all that current...to use the amplifier with 2 ohms or less?..... here, down in Brasil, despite we have some good factories, the conventional, the ancient and traditional transformers cannot supply all that ammount of current...we have also toroidal transformers factories too...but even those cannot hold the voltage when the amplifier drain enormous ammount of energy.

So...all those things seems to me some virtual thing... to simulators and to our imagination, as in the real world voltage drops a lot, and power will never result so big as we suppose it could be.... or alike the measurements we have into simulators.... if you do not include series resistances into your simulator supply, to allow voltage drop you will have some "magic power" as the simulator supply voltage will not drop into the simulator and everything will result very "perfect"... real live is different.

But of course.... some speakers have "valleys" of impedance... frequencies where the impedance drops to a very low level..and amplifiers able to hold 2 ohms or 3 ohms will work more stable, and better than others not able to do that.

The solution is not only into the amplifier.... i imagine the supply as something that will need to be extremelly reinforced to allow amplifiers to work into such a low impedance.

Carlos

destroy bugs

You can destroy a lot of bugs with the white Willy on the pics.
It's a Phalanx anti-missile Gatling gun, pops around 50 rounds a second, the ammo conveyor belt below it is scary. :clown:
Long time ago i almost killed a bug while building an ammo chamber for a Goalkeeper, the adversary of the Phalanx : me

My prefered destroyer is to use this switch and to compare amplifiers

And during those moments the reality appears clearly... many "wonderfull" amplifiers use to be beated by more simple units.

I continue to understand that the most simple you have, the best will be the sound reproduced.... or Nelson Pass was all life long wrong...i do not think so... also JLH was not wrong.

Say... audio patch must be simplified.. avoiding complementary crossover points..using NPN or PNP.... single ended...not exactly class A but "advanced bias system...or an increase AB bias".... off course, to help circuit you can use hundreds of CCS , mirrors if non switching ones, regulators and current sinks around...but avoiding to disturb the simple audio patch.

Image is simplified...but shows a switch controlling the speaker... both amplifier during comparison playing same power, same audio source and same music, same volume... an elected speaker will show you the reality...of course you can change speaker by others...no problem... this use to be reasonable consistent.

So simple, so ease and so fast... this switch is the doubt destroyer.... and people use to prefer simulators, analisers and very complex tests using spectrum analisers... the switch does the job.

I have finished my Quad 405... what a hell strange sound!...maybe mine is wrong!... well..forget that...the thread is about Dx Amplifiers and Destroyers.... i have already smashed that hell amplifier.... was used to studio....my God... this is almost unbeliavable...maybe explains why we had some bad recordings into the seventies... those studios using that amplifier as main monitoring amplifier into the mixer output console.

regards,

Carlos
