DSP making a 2.0 with mono low bass and stereo higher frequencies.

Hi, i was wondering if someone have some DSP knowledge? I have 2 speakers in the same enclosure for a portable speaker and was thinking maybe i can make it stereo. This can be done easely but if one channel put out bass and the other channel nothing , it will act as a passive radiator( the speaker with no signal ). So i was thinking could i filter out the bass and make it mono while playing the higher frequencies as stereo integrated in 1 channel.

search for : Portable, Boombox, some Bluetooth 2.1 boxes...I don't know!

Thanks for the reply. I have 2 channels for 2 woofers so the idee was a left and right channel but because they are in the same enclosure the bass need to be mono. Everything seems possible with dsp and on paper it should work.

-Like having a right and left channel
- split the right signal into low and high
-make the low mono and the high keeping stereo (with a tool/block)
-make it 1 output again

Do the same with the left channel! Because they both now play bass mono, the speaker don't interfere with each other as a passive radiator, so i should calculate the woofer responce in combination with the woofer wich act as a passive radiator. The frequencies( the mids,highs) who aren't affected because of the woofers in the same enclosure, can be played stereo.

I hope this makes sense and i have to say the woofers are only 15 cm apart with a tweeter in between like a center MTM. The tweeter is playing 2000hz and up and the woofers below that!
 
I have to say i already use passive radiators and the speakers are 15 cm from each other so i think this is not worth the try for a little stereo effect.

Also just curious, does someone know what happens if you put different passives in 1 enclosure? Do you get bass boost at multiple frequencies or is it gonna mess up the whole sound tuning?
 
AllenB, 1 amplifier with 4 channels. The dayton kabd 4 x 30. I use 2 woofers and 2 tweeters, 1 tweeter 2000hz to 7000hz and 1 tweeter 7000hz above. It's not nessesary to try stereo because the 2 inch woofers are like 10 cm apart center to center but i was curious because dsp cost no money when trying different options 🙂 !!!
 
This is how to do simple mixing of L&R, you might find this skill useful at some point.

This is not about filtering bass and treble. All amplifiers will receive a full range signal. I have used two frequencies only so you can see the amount they are being mixed.

V1 is meant to be the left channel signal, V2 is the right. R6 and R7 are the source impedances, don't add these. R4 and R5 are the treble amplifiers, R8 is the bass amplifier/s and R2 and R3 are the mixing resistors.

So you have crossover at X Hz and want mono bass below Y Hz and X is considerably higher than Y?

I did something like this with EqAPO. It required virtual channels for filters and then merged back main outputs. I don't know how to do it with Dayton Audio.

Looks like you try to fix problem which might not exist. Try and see first what you get without any DSP.

Yes something like that. The woofers only play up to 2000hz and below 500hz the second woofer act as a passive radiator when not given a signal. In my mind it sounded nice and i think it's possible but first i gonna try to make a limiter to begin with as i have absolutely no experience with dsp.
