tomtom; I'll never have Bretts order of knowledge or Sretens or ***********
but I love to tinker, and I often attempt the impossible ( turning a sows ear into a silk hankie ) never quite managed that sort of magic, but spending a few dollars to turn Cr*p into listenable gives me a certain sense of achievement, especially if it is some-one elses few dollars
I do think $50- was a little too much though, too much money to burn.
If Brett ever gives advice please listen

little late to the party, but i recently stumbled across this thread while fixing mine up and this is my 2 cents regardless.. I have 6 A3009s since high school using them as a 6.1 surround sound setup currently running on a 100w per channel sony amp.
this whole fixing session all started becouse i found some celestion ditton 33s on the side of the road and with some recaping they are a beautiful speaker but really showed the weaknesses of my main system
now i cant comment on the stock two 6db per octave filters on the tweeter and mid as i changed these values long ago and added a inductor to the bass drivers i remember it sounding better but idk how much better that was 3k-10k with 6db filters but it was still a bit peaky
recently i picked up some 700hz-4.5khz crossovers from aliexpess, i still noticed a really large mid bump so i stuffed the boxes with pillow stuffing and put a 3db l-pad on the tweeter night and day difference..
but why stop there after pulling a bass driver i messured a qts of 1.3 after playing around in winisd i think a stuffed vented box of 75l will be just about perfect to tame the midbass hump. so i will get some plywood at a later date and give it a go
after aliexpress crossover stuffing and 3db lpad mesured in the middle of a room
red = stock, blue = stock tuning and stuffed. white = 75l and stuffed looks to be 3db down a 60hz perfect for use with a sub

after some more playing later. i have to say the boxes are very thin, smearing bass lines and adding a sort of muddy tone to speech.. i changed the mids on 2 of the speakers and i honestly love the way they sound. however differently beefer boxes would help.. i changed the phasing of the drivers around to help with a peak at 5khz across the room at listening position that did is not there, just can find the acoustic centre
