Driving 6B4G with half a 6SN7 - SET amp

(Heh) I had assumed these were compactron tubes. Assumptions always be getting me in trouble.

Tbh I had been thinking a choke-loaded 6SN7 might be what I was looking for and @je245 was kind enough to share a suitable schematic. But maybe the Simple45 driver will do. All I want for Christmas is some bench time.

I've been using the 3.5k windings after that was suggested in another thread I started on this amp, and after determining that the DCR of my speakers was 5ohm, I swapped to the 4ohm secondary. A bit more bass.

These Hashimoto OTs make really nice bass. I might go with a larger coupling cap to add more bass as per the je245 schematic.

Thanks, all, and hope you're enjoying whatever holiday you celebrate. Lechaim and eggnog. And beeswax candles 🤘

I've been using 3.5k primary Z (Tamura F7002 + Tango NY15S) in my 2A3 and 300B projects since the 90s. That's also how I wired the Hashimoto H203Us for a friend's SE2A3 amp as well as the H203S in my mono hifi.

Happy building during the holiday season! 🙂

HC-203U primary impedance at about 40Hz reaches the nominal value due to the relatively low primary inductance (13H/3k5, 10H/2k5).
This is common on Japanese OPTs, the core is undersized.

If you boosting the lower register, the OPT distortion in this range will be growing.
