I'm planning on making something like this...I may actually use a router, haven't decided yet. With a router I expect to take a month or two since I can really only work on speakers on weekends. View attachment 1258855
It took me a bit longer than that...

Perhaps for some ideas or inspiration: more here...
(just a hint: stacks like that expand and contract, even when covered inside and out with a lacquer)
Amazing work, your builds have inspired me to develop a template for composite sandwich in structural foam for folded TLs. I chose structural foam after seeing all the issues in wood based productsIt took me a bit longer than that...

That was the first time I had used a router 🙂. A bit of planning and research goes a long way.
I started in computing on CNC lathes and mills in the 1980s. Smallish ones, but still very capable of ripping off your arm and then beating you to death with the soggy end.If you build a set of speakers and use a CNC for it, your hobby is CNC'ing. From a production point of view, I'm finished with a hand router before you even calibrated the CNC.
OK I am out of touch with that field now but the machines took a long time to program and set up but once done could produce hundreds / thousands / even more identical items in very little time.
Back then you just wouldn't consider using that technology to make 2 items.
I may be a dinosaur but I still think the same way.
I love the adaptability of hand power tools too. Try getting a 10 foot / 3 metre kitchen worktop in a hobbyist CNC.
Trying, looks promising too. The extrusions are standard and I am sure a young YouTuber will be more than happy to help set the firmware to the new stopsTry getting a 10 foot / 3 metre kitchen worktop in a hobbyist CNC.
cutting the wood and holes is not the end of box making as far as art and personal touch is concerned
Strange thing to say, it's not either or when it comes down to tools?I love the adaptability of hand power tools too. Try getting a 10 foot / 3 metre kitchen worktop in a hobbyist CNC.
Each has their own pros and cons and obviously not every tools can be used for every job.
There is however an overlap and there more ways to skin a cat sometimes.
If people beforehand already don't want to handle a router manually, there are only so many alternatives left.
If at first you don't succeed maybe skydiving's not for you.
If you don't like handling tools maybe speaker building from scratch isn't for you.

Erin's Audio gave a good review of a speaker with surface mounted drivers, including the tweeter. Wharefdale Aura 2. Wharfedale calls it an acoustic damping frame.
