Does anybody recognise this driver?

I have salvaged two 5" drivers from a Polycom Cambridge Soundworks Subwoofer - C1PLY24R.

Does anybody know where I could get any info on these drivers. I was tempted to get rid of them but original system cost a fortune. If they're any good I might use them in something.

Sub is a very loose term these days. What the OP has is a pair of nominal 6” woofers used in a powered bass box. If they were kind enough to put some numbers on the back of the cones, we would have a much easier time helping out here. Maybe someone out there recognizes them. I had some similar Wharfedale units they only looked the same.

Is there such a thing as a 5 inch subwoofer= - seems it would be a little short on cone excursion

Whilst there is virtually no domestic component market, changes in popular music and Hi-fi systems have conspired to advance small drivers. The advent Midi / Micro systems coincided with the rise in popularity of hip-hop music forced manufacturers extract serious bass from tiny bookshelf speakers. Take one of those small systems apart and you'll find some of those 4" bass drivers have some serious cohones.

Even the cheap 2.1 computer speakers have subs with 4" drivers that respond to 40Hz.

Popular low-end AV systems use 5" subs.

In short, yes, a 5 inch sub is a real thing.
