BTW...

John R. Whittaker has also newer site with some practical construction tips for ~2 meter long true ribbons:

go ->

"Considerations on the Optimal Design of True Ribbon Loudspeakers - A Cautionary Tale."

This information is just GREAT but still under construction. Last update was 22 June 2003. I would like to know more about details. Anyone know what mr Whittaker is doing nowdays and if there is updated pages somewhere? Couldn´t find one. :bawling:

I just did a quick test with a small ribbon made from the paper/aluminum foil from a sigarette pack.

I don't have any fancy magnets so I used a 40 watt elektromagnet, the efficiency was extremely low, I could only get the spl of a normal headphone, and it catches fire when you put in about 300 watts 😀

By examining some pieces of aluminum from the incinerated project I came to the conclusion that the alumimun layer is very very thin, it almost tears when touching it.
The paper might even help to damp some resonances I believe.

Finished 4 Inch Ribbon Tweeters

I already finished these 4 inch ribbon tweeters. They are very efficient compared to other tweeters I have or have had. N52 Neo magnets and very efficient RF type matching transformer 18 to 1 It is basically primary inside of a copper tube. Idea is used for wideband high power RF amplifiers and works very well for this also. I have many photo's of one being made. Not an easy project.
