Andrew, as usual, you are right on both accounts. Forgive my ignorance but I am one of the few who didn't know the wiki's existed. That is absolutely the right place for this stuff and I'll make an effort to contribute some wisdom.

I assume that there are safeguards against a malicious poster deleting everything or replacing all the good stuff with some random blogging? My recent addition to the distortion wiki was very easy and seems to lack the proposal-review-acceptance process of the formal standards.

Rather than re-invent the wheel, maybe it is possible to address some of the concerns here by having a "chairperson" to each wiki (the guy who starts it), tracking all changes like most wordprocessors do and only allowing the "chairperson" to accept changes. The top level wiki menu should be ordered according to popularity whilst still being searchable. And some method of replacing absent chairpersons is probably needed. All thats missing is a way to discuss the proposed changes without swamping the wiki in noise. A parallel forum thread?

Can this be done within the existing wiki framework?

A good Wiki is a self regulating tool by nature, created by the community for the community.
I believe that it is a most powerful tool that needs very little policing or administrating top to bottom. The community is the watchdog. If added entries are found incorrect for whatever reason they will soon be rectified, resulting in a growing and well balanced collection of informative pages.
I will leave the comments on the technical aspects of the proposed changes to the guys in the engine room. 🙂

/Hugo
