DIY Walsh driver revisited

Hi, 6to...😉...
Yes, as Cochleus points out, I'm running two pairs, but stereo front and rear. Experience some interesting phase/reflection interactions that I find amusing. I've got the facility to go 5.1 with them, but haven't taken the time for the rewiring required...'normal life activities' just refuse to go away long enough to allow the diversion. One must make sun while the hay shines, and all that...

I'm always suspicious of things wrapped (or can I say 'cloaked') in round metal containers, unless it's canned food. And yes, the current Ohms sound good. But....I have my prejudices, which are undoubtedly obvious by now if you've tread this thread enough..*G* Shiny metal inverted cones, please. 😉 Upgrade to graphene when possible..

Will follow the link and see what you've found, thanx. *S* Always up for insight...

Hey, Gary...coming to the end of the Charlotte Crawl....will EM pics and some side asides soonish....another long strange trip 'tis been....

*L* I doubt mere mortals like us will be able to play with GA in the immediate future, whatever that time span that portends to be...it's still pricey, the playground of the 'rocket scientist' types....and the budgets to match....

"A group buy"....mmm, and you're proposing what? I'd like to try it, but had no current plans or intent to 'go there' just yet....being in the middle of a V.4 set of 4, with hybrid aluminum cones and some enhancements...

Any thoughts on how that would structure? How could we 'float all boats', so to speak...?

However, building a carbon fiber version would be a great start though.

Nice thing about CF cones is that they're quite robust.

In standard form, the epoxy will make up the lion's share of cone mass.

There is some ultra light matting out there though, if you want a light wt. cone.

The cone still will weigh about the same as paper or Al foil, just tougher.

And, you could natural put more power to it.

*G* Yes, nearly done, and have had enough for awhile. A good 'warm up' for FL...many 'interesting observations' to share. Will snap and shoot, gotta have some for the 'family album' and documentation....😉

Have it in mind to try CF....also titanium, found a source that's not so dear in $. Want to use the same drivers and fab to 'level the field', so to speak. Selection of the CF fabric is an open question, so any thoughts, suggestions, or recommendations will be 'preciated.

Even though out of our reach it is interesting theoretically none the less.

With a stiffness of 40x diamond the bending v would be supersonic across the entire audible range, easily.

i.e., forget about coincidence frequency (and 'cone break-up'). 🙂

*L* Now, all we have to do is get in touch with one of the researchers messing about with it that has an audiophile 'bent' and convince him/her in some fashion that a cone of said material is absolutely necessary in the greater scheme of things....

Let's see....how long is 6400 atoms anyway? 😉

Agreed, though...makes graphene sound like wet tp...cone mass and weight becomes almost inconsequential...coupled to a dual drive vc with a feedback loop and we gots the 'new F series X'.

*sigh* Pity the first pair would probably cost about the same as a new 777 jetliner, but hey...what price can one put on perfection, right? *G*

Given the current political climate....and a vid of some nitwit nearly getting his head knocked off by a Cessna on approach while he's snapping a pic while someone is filming him....

...and you bring up Reality.

Like the late Robin Williams said:

"Reality....what a concept."

I don't pay much attention to it anymore. Have gotten to prefer my own illusions of grandeur. I'm sure you can relate on some levels.... 😉
