well, it depends on the controller board you are using...
if its just the controller board that the laptop came with, then it might not work, as those are pretty much just a part of the motherboard, and don't interface as standalones well.
as for building your own, no one has really found any info regarding this, i think it's pretty difficult, unless you are an electrical engineer. there are a few sites though that sell controller boards for laptops, but they dont have composite, and are around $300.
i would like to see the screen and controller board though, just to see if its usable. oh, and your english is better than some ppl who speak english as their main language!

thelaw said:can someone help me out quick. I think i'm gonna be "upgrading" my OHP in a little while. I have a feeling that the short bulb life may get irritating. I have sourced a place that sells metal halide ballasts and lamps in the UK.
My questions are .
1. Is a lamp and ballast all i need? what is an ignitor? do i need that as well?
2. How hot do these things get (250watt/400watt)
3. Are they easy to wire?
cheers, any help appreciated.
im not 100% sure about these, so ill let marklar correct me...
1.) yes, do not need an ignitor for MH
2.) pretty warm, but with a good design, and some airflow across them, it will be fine.
3.) for the most part, if you have a little bit of knowledge of wiring, or simple electronics. (positive, negative, ground, etc...)
if i'm wrong on anything, please correct me!
is a controller bord just like a video card ?
and what information do you need to know if its working ?
and what information do you need to know if its working ?
well, sometimes a controller board is like a video card, meaning it plugs into a PCI or ISA slot on a computer. SOMETIMES its like a converter, accepts signals from a VGA card, and sends it to a panel. OTHER TIMES, its just a proprietory board that needs to be hooked up to its original laptop.
well, see what you can connect to it, or connect it to. if you can, just test it!

dude the controler board is the "action" like the brain that sends the signal to the lcd . the lcd is just like a guide for the signal/performs a "reaction" (lcd=body) .boom you got a picture.

Ok i will buy the tft screen and try to hook it up. If this is not working then i can throw it away ?
Your taking from laptop, right?
I don't think you will be able to use it. You will still need to buy a controller board.
I think what is attached to the panel you will buy, is just the driver board, not controller. You will still need to buy a controller!
I don't know which laptop it is from, but, I think you will definitely need to purchase another board. Could cost up to $350!
Why don't you wait?! Tell us which laptop it's from and the model # and then we can help you decide.
I hate to have you waste your money, if we could tell you to not buy it.
Please tell us more detail of that panel and then we can help you make an informed decision.
You can email me directly, if you wish.

Aleksey,
All you gotta do is email me! I'm there for you 24/7, dude.
I offered my help to you on this thread a few weeks ago. I said I would offer the 'glad-hand' anytime! But, I can't hold your hand all the time...sorry, I have to use it for the toilet sometime, ha-ha.
I am not an expert, though. But, I have a little more free time to help locate information, before I depart this world, he-he. So don't be shy! Ask me any time!
My email button is down here v.

i maild the man and he said everything was on it from the connectors to tft. i asked him if he want to send more information. like fabric , serial number, highest resolution....

Now, i don't want to go down to your level, but man you really should stop showing your immaturity so much.
Besides that, your point is totally unfounded,
1. Someone did already tell you that passive matrix is not good for full motion video.
2. If you think that you are intelligent enough to build a projector, then surely you should be intelligent enough to be able to use a mouse and a search engine, why didnt you search for the panel and find out yourself like the rest of us do?
3. The fact that you put yourself in the category with the people who actually do great work here is just a joke, all you contribute is insults and annoyances.
4. There ARE good ppl here that actually do great work here (i wont mention names in fear of missing some out, you know who u are!) and they are sharing this information for your benefit. They don't have to do this, nor do they have to contribute information/photos at all to the forum. but they choose to out of their own free will. Don't abuse this by saying "You should have told me ..blahblah" it's just plain childish ...
Just my $0.02
P.S: marklar: do you mind if i email u a few questions about ur metal halide setup?
cheers,
