7" 16/9

Hi,

I found this 7" 16/9 LCD :

I have some questions about it:
-the specs say it has 365000 pixels; do i have to divide these by 3 to get "real # pixels" ?
-would it be a lot harder to use this 7" LCD in a video-projector than a smaller 5.6" LCD, or would the projector just be bigger and loose more light because of less efficient aspect-ratio ?
-It costs €495 (about 465$), should I look harder for another one with less extra's, or could a remote-control be usefull ?

There are some other LCD's on that page, is any of them any good, or is 960x234 not worth the money (they range from €240 to €350 for the 5" and 5.6" panels) ?

Two XGA MH systems for sale.

Hello,

I have two OHP/Panel combos for sale. I want $350, plus ship, each. Speaking of cost, I need to get my money back out of this projector panel experimentation...

I thought I'd offer them here, before putting them up on ebay. This way, someone who's really into it can get it, without the hassle of being outbid - on a first come, first serve basis. The only hassle is the price, as these are not cheap. A sale to a forum member here saves me the hassle of creating the ebay listing.

System one. A Sharp QA 2000 and a Elmo HP-A305 7K lumen projector. Good points; XGA, 16.7M color, brite image, Comp and Svid in. Bad points; one bad pixel on LCD, visible (they dont tell you that on ebay...) and the MH bulb has unknown hours on it, but is currently working fine. $150 replacement cost.

System two. A N-View Z350 and a Elmo HP-A305 7K lumen projector. Good points; XGA, brite image, LCD perfect. Bad points; VGA only - no composite or Svid - this means "HTPC or Viewsonic VB50 input only", 1.4M color (not the best you can do). The MH bulb has unknown hours on it, but is currently working fine. $150 replacement cost.

Both systems come with the power supplies, cables, cases for the panels, ready to set up and run. No hidden problems, other than as stated.

Expect to pay $150 for the projector, $200+ for the panels after typical bidding closes on ebay. You may actually do better there, depending on how it goes. I'll wait a few days before proceeding to the ebay way -

Hello all, this is my first post. I've been perusing through the threads for quite some time, and only recently decided to get back to my....you guessed it.... projector project. I managed to recupe an old 640X480 native Polaroid 10 SP, which I wish to enhance. Has anyone done any work with this particular setup, if so, can they recommend a good lighting source.

Thanks in advance, and great work on this forum guys, this info is invaluable.

nview media pro power supply info

I posted a little while ago about looking for the specs for a nview mediapro power supply. I never actually found them, but I (with a lot of help) did figure out what was going on. The mediapro has a weird input for power, a 5 pin DIN input, each of the pins has a different voltage. Now 5 pin DIN's aren't that uncommon, they usually come with a ground and +12 V, +5 V, -12 V, -5 V as the pins. However, the mediapro DIN has very weird voltages, I don't have the exact numbers with me, but if you have a mediapro and have no power supply as I do, just take the cover off and look at the circuit board to find the voltages. To be brief I enlisted the help of an electrician at the University I work for, and we hooked up 3 seperate desk power supplies, adjusted for the right voltages, and got the thing to work. The electrician told me he would build me a power supply for it, otherwise I would probably have to somehow cannabalize 3 AC/DC adapters to make it work. Anyway, just so other people know, buying a mediapro without the power supply can be very painful!

On another note, has anyone every posted something about this site:

http://www.edmundoptics.com/TechSupport/DisplayArticle.cfm?articleid=251

It is a quick review of projector optics, and I found it illuminating.

my friend bought one without a powersupply, and could not get it to powerup. wasnt a mediapro, but it had the 5 pin DIN like yours... we even had a power configuration. HOWEVER, the reason it didnt work, even though its 5v, 12v, etc... (which is easy with a computer powersupply or something), each one is rated at different amps.... some were 1.5, 0.5, 1, etc... thats a hard thing to do... if you can find schematics, cool, but if not, i wouldnt mess with it. we tried for 2 days messing with it, WITH schematics. the guy who sold it claimed he got it to work (even after we bought it, and all harm was done, he had no reason to lie then). i would suggest getting a spectra c. they are same specs (little better contrast i think), and they are cheap. good reliable panel, and they have normal power supply.

Re: The hard to find 400 W Compact Metal Halide light...

We're getting close, I know it. To this point, there seems to be general concensus on lighting: I've heard enough about the "Compact Metal Halide" Light to think it's what I need. 400W seems to be in the right range.

But I cannot source one. If anyone has actually got a part #, supplier, etc, I'd be grateful for the info.

Thanks,
dave.

Curious, but can these be purchased from a local place?
like reno depot, or any hardware store?
and how much do metal halide bulbs usually cost? I saw one on the net going for nearly 1k$... scared the crap outta me the first time. Now it seems like alot of people are getting them for around 25-30$.

As a side note 🙂 I finally received my Sharp QA-1650 last night. I openned the box up and played with it for a while. It's very wicked! and i haven't even put it on a projector yet. YET I see alot of potential in it.

I have hit pay dirt

Been a while since i posted, I have started to build my projector it's pretty small about 6 inches high and 8 inches long I found a compact flouresent bulb at wal-mart that puts out 2700 lumens this is more than enough since i'm using a 4 or 5 or 8.4 inch lcd sreen.

I have found away to extend the ribbon cable or sometimes called Flat Flexible Cable(FFC) this is a way to get the driver board out the way. There is this company named Molex that makes FFC connectors, now my lcd sreen from www.partsexpress.com can be used in my projector. You can ask for samples at www.molex.com or you ask www.mouser.com to order them for you.

For people who want to use a 8.4, 9.4 or 10.4 lcd screen from a laptop i found a website that sells vga controller boards for a number of Toshiba laptops all of the boards are $39.95 they dont give any specificatoins and I dont know if we can use them or not. They sell the lcd srceen to put they are High as hell you find these lcds on ebay or you take them from Toshiba satellite T1960cs, T1960, CS100 mostly the older models make sure it is a color screen tft.

First of all, this is my first post on the forum and I'd like to say hi to all you DIY'ers.

Now, Krazzyed and I just spent 6 hours last night learning all we could about the LCD projector world and we are definitely ready to go ahead with project big screen. From a few of you guys out there we learned (and laughed) a lot. We're gonna go for the 10 inch LCD approach, maybe with an OHP or maybe with a layout similar to Undream's.

So, square one, the LCD: Anybody got a nice panel projector for sale out there? I'm thinking Nview Spectra C, Proxima Ovation 822, Sharp 1650 or 1750, and etc.

As soon as we get this project rolling we'll post pics and web address.

btw...how does the Nview Spectra C do for fast action? Does it blur any?

Laptop LCD controller...

rmccoll,
Pay dirt indeed, by your description. I've been stonewalled by the ability to get a signal to the extracted LCD panel (and by the ribbon cable to move the driver board out of the way) for less that $500.

So your news is exciting. But I've visited the links you've included, and cannot find either the LCD controller for the panels, nor the FCC cable.

Can you be more specific in your links/part names/descriptions?

(I'm working with Dell screens, but ya never know)

Thanks,
dave.

Spectra C is my personal choice... GREAT entry level panel. NO motion blur, and ive watched lost in space, gladiator, um, probably about 50+ movies on my projector in the 3 months ive had it.

bulb info anyone

i got a bulb its a 400 watt high pressure sodium westing.......
light bulb about 10" long produces 55,000 lumens

i havent tryed it in the projector but i did hook it up and got it to lite up i was not not impressed at all
it gave out a green lite witch i think my f me up later plus most of all it didnt put out what i thought it would (comparing ratios to smaller bulb ive had"4500.lumens soft reader sh*tty bulb")

this is how i set it up

power to the core coil ballast through the igniter and the cap etc.
to a mogul socket witch has 4 settings low med high & off(this high med low might be my problem so im going to bypass that part and hook up direct unless more info say not to etc ) to the bulb

dude(s) it was like looking at a florecent light
it kinda hurts me inside for the cash i spent.😡 😡 😡 😡

wierd. First of all, high pressure sodium should give off a reddish color light, very warm. Even warmer than the average 4000K Metal Halide. Some would even consider HPS too warm colored, where it might cause inaccurate color reproduction on your projection screen.

Pretty much any high intensity discharge lamp should take between 5 and 15 minutes to warm up to its full brightness. Even my Metal Halide bulb starts off glowing a faint blue color, but after 10 minutes, it is very warm color.

overhead projector bulbs

This may be a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway...

Since FXL (82V 410W) and ENX lamps (82V 360W) are very similar, can a person buy a (cheaper) ohp rated at ~3000 lumens and simply use a FXL bulb in it (instead of the suggested ENX) to bring the lumens up to 4000 or so?

just curious

B.

Holy sh!$ that is a great find, there are many there, here is one http://www.impactcomputers.com/p000224960.html
Can anyone confirm that is what we need, and anyone have any ideas how to hook it up?? The Power supply req? It looks like we need to buy the contrast thing too...another $40, still at $80 a good deal though. I've got finals, so I won't really look into this till after thurs, but I think I know what I'm going to try this summer break!
