DIY Video Projector Part II

Im afraid that your setup isnt suitable for OPH retro,

heres mine http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2328264593&category=3212&rd=1

I know this works bcuz i dd my research 😎 http://members.cox.net/rolm/update/ (50th time i posted this link yes i know 🙂 )

its a good bulb but not perfect, the perfect builb would surely cost more and give more lumens and be more point source, the perfect bold would be around 5500k-6700k .

Ace you see the ballast in ROLMS site? thats my EXACT ballast, Im not soldering my wiring im using wire nuts ,u can see the wires coming from the outside and see the wire nuts connecting em,

I emailed hello lights AND Alan they both told me i dont need a special PSU to run ( just liek i told u :devilr: )
but ace if i connect my psu i STILL cant test the ballast since i have no socket so its useless to try it now.

I'll c ya lata Bloke

u wana start a fire or what? lol oh man u are crazy what psu? the ballast is a psu for the bulb lol u dont need another psu for the 100th time lol and i dont know what u are saying about testing the ballast with some psu, if u wana test it use a bulb lol or a high voltage and amperage multi meter lol

Trev

grrrrrrr you know what i mean!😡 🤐 lol

we've talked about this, you know what im sayin ,to me PSU is the power cord
.......... high voltage amper thingy ma WHO? sorry i dont own one of those..lol

use a bulb...? you say well how can i use a bulb without a socet🙄 magic? lol

lol

guys, i am not actually going to use the bulb and a ballst that i got in my ACTUAL setup. the only reson i bought those is to see if there is even a slight chance that i will get adecent projector using my 15" LCD panel. i am paying 12$ shipping for the ballast... annd yeah, it is kinda big, but i will only use it so set up a prototype lightsource. Eventually, i am planning to hang my projector on the ceiling, so weight is critical, and i will not use that huge ballast, it weigths about 20 lbs or something. in my final product, that is if i will be satisfied with my prototype results, i will use a double ended bulb, with a 250W ballast...

are you saying that MY setup will not work? why not? tell me ahead of time, i do not want to learn that i a about to fail when i will be close to completion...

and actually, i think that having a little lower temperature bulb is a good thing. did you guys read the PEPSI CHALLENGE in the video section? the Halogen won!!! if slightly YELLOW halogen won, then why are we all trying to use the snow white MH bulbs in our setups? maybe a little yellow is a good thing? or maybe the guy's projectors were fu#%ed up?

tell me what you think...

good luck all

well personally i made my projector around a test light, thats just a 150w halogen, i got and learnt how to make the light not only intense but bright also and not to mention how reflectors work, now can u do that with a bright bulb? no unleess u wana cook your eyes out. Ok so having a less bright test light when building custom to me is the go, i have it all tuned and now just need my mh for a perfect brightness and i still got my eyes to watch the movie at the end of it all lol

projector builder dont stress if its not bright enough with the test light just get a brighter one later on like i plan on doing

i dont know im not a ohp freek lol if its is what ohp is made for projection panels? u get all kinds ive even seen some with halogens with a colour temp of 2700k! the only ohp that i know of that is partly made for projection panels is the solar deluxe

omg, $80... and i did not even start building a reflector...

ACE... could you tutor me on HOW TO MAKE A PERFECT REFLECTOR? i know it should be parabolic, but what shape?

thanks guys🙂

good luck all:xfingers: :xfingers:

P.S. my dad will kill me when he sees his credit card bill in the end of the month...:RIP:

This is my third projector I've build with this LCD and I'm finally getting every thing together it's a really simple design but it's somethng to start out with. My first two designs were for front projection, now I'm trying a rear projection, because all outside light is almost stopped, your light would'nt have to be as bright and since most of the other projectors build by other people have been huge it's best that the size of it be for a reason.

Like I said my projector is simple it's just the Sony Psone LCD I believe the res. is 960X230 something I don't a thing about contrast ratio or respond time, but it shows fine to me, the controller is almost out of the way, it's connected to the lcd by a short ribbon cable it's at a 90 degree angle from the lcd. My light source is a 75 watt halogen bulb, it can for about an hour and a half before getting a hot spot, I haven't yet added a fan, but I'm going to buy a huge fan and hook it to my projector via a tube so it can blow air into and keep really cool.

My lense has a low focal length is 125mm so it's close to the lcd, it's not in the picture.

I'm not trying to be rude, but the people who are asking where can they buy a cheap 14 to 15 inch lcds, stop being so cheap your going spend money doing this project, lcd are still relatively new so the price it'snt going to drop anytime so,as you can see prjctr_builder has already spent $80 on his setup and he hasn't bought his lcd, so open your wallets a little bit.

OK, maybe I mentioned this before, maybe not, but my LCD kinda broke: 1/3rd of the image is totally messed up. I dunno why but the colors and pixels seem to "bleed" into each other in that part. Does anyone know why this is or how i can fix this?

Anyway: I was kinda pissed off because it was a pretty good lcd (although it was "only" a car-lcd) Who said in-car lcd's aren't good enough for projector-building?? I think its just fine as long as you dont make the image too large.

As a reaction to my lcd-breaking I started designing and building my "crap-projector". This is a design with all my left-over parts. My second, more or less scratched lense, 2 plastic magnifying-reading-fresnels, a crappy playstation "psone" lcd, a 50Watt 😎 halogen mini-spot and some left over bits of wood i had lying around in the basement. Needless to say this is no HDTV-hi-quality-DVD-theatre-setup but the tests showed a nice evenly lit watchable image. Not very bright, but enough in a dark room.

One thing was kinda remarkable: i normally use a 500Watt halogen worklight as testlamp but this small 50Watt minispot seems to be only a bit less bright!! I guess it's because it focuses the light and the 500W spreads it all over the place.

Well anyway: i made some pics during the building process but i forgot the camera at home (i'm in my dorm now) so pics will follow (in a few weeks because im leavingto Spain&Portugal tomorrow 🙂 )

I'll post here as soon as i return!
PS: crappy parts DO work in a PJsetup 🙂 not super, but it does the trick more or less

Oh yea: i do not intend to watch dvd's through this setup: i have plans for my big PJ which will be high quality... (if all goes well)
I will forget about the in-car lcd and buy a pc-lcd-monitor. I do NOT want to use a pc every time i use my PJ so i'll get a VGA box asap (and if the price is right)
I dunno if there's a thread which shows al usable lcd monitors, but i'll check in a minute. If not: what are the perfect lcd monitors? besides this "benq"-type i heard of?

news from me

after i've finished my first projector, me is gonna make a new one; me is planning to use a panel with 1280x1024 pixels which is sxga!!! gonna built in in my vacations...

some points;

rear projection
sxga resolution
compact
portable

price about

350$

?

i have read many posts on here but none are simple plans, all require dissassembly of a lcd screen- how hard is this without ruining it, and also keeping all the connections-s-video, component etc...?(i would use the psone screen).

saw this plan but after reading many of the posts in this thread and the last one i reckon it wouldn't be very good, but much easier as i dont need to take apart the lcd screen?

please reply.
