How do you center a thread on a barrel-shaped pulley?
I know someone uses a couple of o-ring to center the thread belt on the pulley.
Here is my solution, how to make a very good low cost turntable belt - the material is the Rig Tube for carp fishing. I opened the thread on Serbian diyaudio , you can use any translator, the text is not difficult. Just follow the pictures, the process is very simple.

McMaster Carr makes custom o-ring drive belts. I bought some in urethane that worked fine. Cheap, about $6-10each. Takes a few days to get.

DIY Belt for Empire 208
Anyone have experience with making belts for turntables with motor pulleys that are adjustable for speed control by tipping like my Empire 208? I've used several commercially produced flat rubber belts with recommended although different lengths and widths, each producing different audio qualities. Is it worth my time experimenting with thread or non stretchable tape type belts with this type pulley? My concern is that the belt tension is applied by a spring which swings the motor and pulley along a fairly crude track under the plinth. This tension seems possible to slip over time and thereby possibly change the speed of the platter. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Although I shop a lot at McMaster and have looked for this type of thing, I have never found them. Thanks for the link!
What diameter do you use? 1/16" ? maybe 3/32" ?
Whether it sounds better with a stretchy or firm belt has a lot to do with the rotational inertia of the turntable & pulley and of the drive motor & pulley, and the periods of oscillation that result. The stretchy stuff might absorb motor cogging and motor bearing noise, or lead to speed instability of the platter. This is pretty simple science, not voodoo.
Whether you pull the platter bearing to one side, and whether that makes an improbvment or degradation, again depends on the particular design. I like having a really long belt, with an idler opposite the motor, or two motors on opposite sides. But now I only use direct-drive anyway.

I'm looking into surgical silk tread to get a project tt working. Studio Au and Clack mentioned using it. In my research there are several sizes available. Common size I'm finding are 2-0 (28 gauge/0.013"/0.3mm) or 4/0 (22 gauge/0.025"/0.6mm) Is there a recommendation size? Here's the wiki link with the chart of silk suture sizes available.

I been using 1/2" mylar for years now works great, you just have to make a really good splice....
On about a 45* angle but then I tape it straight up and down using two prices of tape on the outside only.
many vintage vinyl turntables cannot be restarted because their belts can no longer be found look at this address
https://www.newtechnology.fr/
they have hundreds of references made from exact models these belts are made of rubber and the company which offers them is very serious
