What about the Discovery 81?

I'm debating between it and the Suzie-Q.

There is such a mountain of options for 2-way design, even given the fact that you narrowed it down to 8" + 1" and chose an application. I don't know how many designs of that type that I have built, each with its own qualifications/performance. I have not seriously read all of the posts here but suffice it to say it will help you to make more qualifications for the build. Maybe size, maybe even weight. Price on the other hand is understandable but if this is something that is important to you and you intend to use it for years to come, a higher initial cost may save you money in the long run.
Those are excellent points. Especially the spending more now often being less in the long run.
I like building speakers, however it is so difficult with not being able to listen to them in advance. There are just so many variables and trade-offs in speaker design and it gets frustrating spending hundreds of dollars and days or weeks of time to get to a final product and go 'hmm, that wasn't what I was hoping for'.

Don't we know it?! I have set of speakers that would really shine in a larger room, but I just had to build them at the time. Now I may be considering building the mini-Onkens. Hmmm, maybe a test build first?
So Do i have that correct? $900+ for two speakers NO box or materials for that yet....haha insanity
At the very least:
