If I attend I would be pleased to show the kxproject dsp crossover to anyone who is interested in learning about it - I probably still won't have built any passive crossovers by time the event arrives
Now THAT I would be very interested in seeing.
I don't mind other things being shown, but personally I am mainly really interested in hearing DIY speakers. As long as there is a dedicated setup for that purpose, I will be there.
Same here. DIY audio is what I am interested in. If there are five people or 30, I dont care. I'd love to here some new stuff and learn about the designs.
Is the center of gravity shifting to the east? 😉
I don't know if any of you are into high-efficiency loudspeakers but it might be a good opportunity to hear what the fuss is about. The hornguy has a vast collection of vintage drivers, from which I'm always borrowing something or other (heh, I have one of his rca1428b drivers for a while). I want to build an onken box for a jbl woofer that's sitting around, and set the rca driver on top of it. Might be a bit like bringing a St. Bernard to a cat show though.

Making my speaker designs hi-efficiency is one of my major engineering objectives. IMO it is hard to beat the tone of SET amps. Since some 97.46 % of these are quite low power, there is a need for hi quality, full range efficient speaker systems. This is why my speaker prototypes have almost all been so large. I've heard there are ugly penalties for breaking the laws of physics.

I've been concentrating my R&D on horns and arrays.
I am new to this board but frequent other boards quite a bit. I have built a kit and a couple suwoofers. I think this would be a great learning oportunity for me and probably others here too. It seems like it has escaladed into something a bit larger than expected, but I think with enough interest we may be able to pull this off. I am an EE student and find there are not nearly enough resources for someone like myself to learn first hand. Also to learn first hand from peoples' experience. I have a lot of talented teachers but few know audio like some of the people here. If we are all serious I'm willing to take some responsibility to help plan this thing.
It's just 14 guys so far if you count heads, but assume each brings a friend (I will). Who has a really-big rec room or a great rapport with their pastor?

I am sure there will be more people.
I am new to speaker designs and DIY stuff, but planning on starting as time permits. Here is what I am thinking. As far as I understood, you haven't decided on the place yet. I am from McMaster University (Hamilton). If we'll figure out some date, I can try to find the place for a meeting in there. There are quite a few Engineers who whould be interested in the event.
Cheers!
If it's DIY that covers hi-efficiency speakers and SET tubes, you can count me in. I've built some Altec 604 based speakers, 300B and 45 SET amps and have some more tube gear, speaker projects and a listening room with built-in horn subs in the works and meeting other like minded builders is always a treat.
I live in Newmarket and work in Ajax so Toronto or east is best for me.

Heads Up from Kitchener, ON
I'd be interested in going and may or may-not bring gear depending on how much space / time there is. Haven't read the whole thread yet (just found it), but would like to be kept in the loop !!

Hi guys ,
Now that we have enough people to have a meet, Just wanted to know at what location would be the best for everyone? and then when should we have the meet. And also people can get their models and not just speakers, so that everyone is got a choice what they want to see and learn.
We'll go from there later on.
thanx,
Tony.

I'd sure like to hear some tubes and horns. What kind of subs are you planning on building? BTW I'm in Newmarket aswell.

I used to live on Foxtail Ridge in Newmarket, over looking the William Mckenzie Wildlife Preserve.

The horn subs will be 30Hz in-wall, basically 2 "J" shaped horns with the mouths approx. 7' x 2' floor to ceiling in the corners. I'm building a dedicated listening room and I wanted to reduce the room length by about 2' anyway, figured some horns would be a nice way to use up the space 🙂 .
If you want to get together to shoot the s or even come over for a listen to my system when I get things set up again (I just moved), drop me a PM with your contact info.

Thanks Bill. I think I'll take you up on that when you get things set up.

Since many of us seem to be in the GTA, a Toronto location would probably be the easiest for everyone, but it makes little difference to me.
I don't know what kind of venue would be appropriate. Any suggestions?
and then when should we have the meet.
A couple dates in January were brought up before. I would prefer the 15th or 16th but I dont know how well that works for others.

Tony I received your PM but cannot reply despite several attempts. My server rejects your email address. Can you please check this and try emailing me again? Thanx.
Hi All,
I happened on this thread by chance on a search for something else. I would be interested in meeting people in this area as well. Should or is this open to all DIY'ers or just speaker design? Normally I cruise the Amplifiers forums. Possibly start small with just a get together and see where things go? Timmey's in warmer weather might work for most.

I'm still up for this but it is such a busy time for everyone. I suspect that interest will pick up again in a month or two. I can only speak for myself but I think that other audio DIYers would also be welcome.
A couple months does sound better. Is there a way for someone to collect email addresses in preparation? Also, move the thread to a more visible spot? I'd like to catch more people in the area. This group is more applicable than something like AES. Informal works.

I am still in, January or later makes little difference to me. If it is later, I will have more stuff to bring though 😉 I also want to clarify that I don't mind other DIY stuff being there, just as long as it doesnt get TOO big. I would like to avoid the problem of 'only hearing 10% of what was there' that has occurred at some of the bigger events.
