Got my prisms and iScan HD+. Thanx again Roar! Sorry Bud, but my trip didn't allow me to drop by to check out your setup this time.
When I picked up my iScan HD+ off my HT friend in the Hamilton area, I stopped by to check out his theatre. He isn't going CH because he watches mostly 16:9 HD. He has a beautiful setup. 100 or 110" diag 16:9 1.1 gain Screen Innovations screen with a Sony HS 51. That is one nice picture. Great contrast and blacks. His room is painted black at the front and very very dark blue the remainder. Looks awesome.
Anyhow, time to start experimenting. I have been offered a Panamorph 752 for $300 USD shipped and I wonder if I should give it a try. Will these prisms look the same, better or worse, once I have gotten the alignment and geometry perfect? If the Panamorph lens doesn't depreciate much more than $300 USD in a few months, I wonder if I should grab it and give it a try, and use it to compare with my DIY picture etc.
Hey Constant Height people, what projectors and screens are you using? I am using a Hitachi PJ TX200 and a DIY blackout material screen.

Hey guys!
New memeber, just came over from AVS.
Got an H77 Optoma, looking to try this prism setup. Any idea where I can get the prisms in Canada? is there a local distributor somewhere?
I am in BC, Vancouver.
Mark, great work!!!
I think we emailed a few times about liwuzen lens back a while ago, whatever happened to that??? It felt like it got canned by the AVS moderators. Maybe it was infringing on the Prismasonic and Panamorph territory... It seemed promising.

Contact ROAR...he has a list of Canadian distributors(hopefully not just Ontario's)
Good Luck!

Sanyo Z3 currently have a 90" 16x9 white melamine painted some grey color
On order--some Daizian CCC (cant afford SMX right now) and two prisms on the way.
Feeding it with HTPC--just discovered I can use SageTV to scale all my HD and Movies
Going for about a 35x80 Dazian CCC and going to move my center channel up behind (moving the screen 20" forward from where it was

I would except when you are a new memeber you can't email for a while...
Just sent him a message asking him to check the board...he'll reply, he's a good guy.

Hey Mbonikow,
Its me, cpc from AVS and Chris PC from HTF. I haven't tried my prisms yet, but I will be trying them asap. If you can find a distributor in BC for these prisms, you should be good to go. $30 CDN each. Good luck 🙂

Thanks, I've had fun along the way 🙂
Luiwzen's lens is a great product. A little too restrictive for my needs (still needs TR of at least 1.7 or greater) but has full optic coating etc. The price was good too, but his big mistake was to discuss prices and sales inquiries on the AVS site.
AVS is a business after all, so any financial discussions are supposed to go through them and he did not do that. The fee for a powerbuy is a fair amount too, even if it is aimed directly at the target audience, means that you need to make quite a turn over of product or have high prices, or both...
Maybe both Prisms based lenses did feel a slight sting...

Next step in this plan
Now that we have (or soon to have) the lens made, can any of you DIY'ers think of how to automate the movement of the lens.
I was thinking of perhaps a small linear actuator, 4 or 5" throw.
I have seen some that have interanal limit switches and are DC
But how do we make it to respond to an IR remote.
Any thoughts appreciated

It's kind of difficult to tell from the photo, but I ended up taping up HALF of the rear prism. It REALLY helped cutting off the rear-reflection I was getting on the back wall of the closet my projector is in. I used a piece of card board and slid it in front of the back prism to the point just before it interfered with the light path, then taped it up.
I used both black electric tape and black duct tape. I intentionally wrapped the first layer with black electric tape to have the black on the inside as I thought the white sticky part of the duct tape might be too light on the inside of the prisms. It probably didn't matter but I worried about loss of contrast with the light illuminating the lighter tape inside.
And one more screen shot for good measure...
By the way, this is a paused image through a SONY DVP-NS55P DVD player using the progressive through component.
I was using the LG DN191H player but it wouldn't play my IMAX DVDs for some reason. It also looked horrible through HDMI/DVI connection and the picture on the Sony looks smoother to me.
I'll wait and see which direction the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD goes before I commit to one or the other. Right now, I'm extremely happy with the image quality I'm getting with normal DVD.
FYI- The IMAX DVD "The Living Sea" is shot 2.35:1 scope and is AWESOME with the lens set up. The music is by STING and it's beautiful.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Thanks guys, good to see you are still at it! Where are you getting them in Ontario then?
I did some reading on that French cinema site. Afterwards I found a few manufacturing companies that produce BK7 glass prisms in larger sizes.
check out this place for example:
http://www.escoproducts.com/products/bk7-right-angle-prisms.php
Now, granted this is a right angle prism, but I see no reason why they would not produce an anamorphic one in our sizes.
For some reason anamorphic prisms seem to come only in small sizes (around 15mm) I guess they don't need them bigger in lab situations. Still I think getting BK7 multicoated prisms for around $150 could be possible. How would they compare to the crystal wedges is for you guys to decide 🙂
I think that is what the cinema.fr did, they just got them custom made. Their first batch is arriving as we speak, should be interesing what type of results they get...
