Ok, got it, thanks!

What's the deal with Debian Stretch? Is it better than AudioLinux, Real Time?

It's just basic Linux. Audiolinux is optimized for audio. But for just straight NAA use from the command prompt, I'm not sure if there's any sonic benefit yet.

I asked Piero (the creator of Audiolinux) and he just said using Audiolinux for dedicated NAA use is like using a race car to drive the kids to school. Can't be bad, but used for the server OS, even greater benefits can be had.

If you read the Italian forum link I posted, Bibo tells you how to optimize the realtime extreme settings for when you are using Audiolinux on both the server and client with HQplayer/NAA. I haven't made it there yet.

This just may be the holy grail 🙂

After that next step, optical Ethernet isolation 🙂

No you need 16gb. I wish though. I'll be trying Debian Stretch running networkaudiod some time in the future though. It will fit.

Another option is to pop one of these Mini PCI-to dual micro SD or single full sized SD into the half sized PCI-E slot. This will make for a stealth install.

...
Another option - a good one in my view for a NAA on a fast network - is to do without a local drive and use LAN boot.

NAA Setup

I need help!
How to setup NAA?

I have two Win7 PCs, one with HQPlayer Desktop (server) and the other Client with Amanero connected and running NAA (just showing command prompt). On HQPlayer Server PC ->Setting->Backend:NAA but Tools menu -> "Network naming..." does not discover client, just blank window!

I can see and access the client computer via the server PC network so all appears connected

Have I missed anything?

Firstly, be sure that NAA sees your DAC through Amanero.
Secondly, server and client must belong to the same domain. It's easy if you set a static IP address for both of them.
Thirdly, be sure there is no firewall enabled that prevents connection between PCs.
Your NAA/DAC must switched on first, then server.
If you still cannot connect, check your switch/router. Sometimes internet access is needed.

Thanks Bibo01,

I think I have got all covered except:

.

I am seeing a command window indicating NAA has launched. It does not seem to take keyboard inputs. So how now to check if Amanero is connect via NAA?

Ok, I will check with other media players. I can ping both ways Server/Client, even disabled Firewall. HQPlayer was restarted several times to sequence, even Pcs rebooted and did NAA first then HQplayer - still no luck!

A quick fix to these issues would be the Audiolinux image. Unless you value your time at about 25 cents an hour, it's worth the 29 euros in my experience 🙂.

Foobar on client can detect Amanero and play.

Maybe something weird going on. Client is a low-rent Tablet PC of yesteryear with Win7 32-bit. Thought this was be good enough for NAA 🙁

Why not put the Audiolinux image on a stick and boot from it on that computer? I have it figured right out now, I can walk you through any issues. Forget Windows.

while waiting for the OS on stick to arrive.... Maybe I should just go for a pie and pint to clear my head 😀

Ha ha. You should have just downloaded the image instead. Much faster. USB sticks are a dime a dozen pretty much anywhere. You really only need the super fast sticks for server applications.

Maybe Piero would let you download the image in the meantime since you paid for it already anyways.

Try to test NAA on a different PC.
I am not sure Win 32-bit is a problem for NAD, but sometimes it is for HQPlayer.

If you can, try to use a different switch with internet access.

I have no other PCs, unfortunately except for heaps of winXPe 500MHz SBCs doing 'drone' stuff. I don't suppose these could do audio

Will see if I can grab from someone else.

I am using switch with internet access and all devices appear on the network and can ping one another.
