Different ported alignments

Thank you for all your replies. If I may, a few final questions,
mainly to Sreten. HP? I understood everything else.
Whilst I am sticking with 5L for the moment, I would like to know (assuming>90dB levels) are there any disadvantages in using the 7L tuned to 50Hz alignment? E.g. is the bass of an equal quality?

Hi,

HP = high pass, e.g. used as an AV speaker, using the AV
amplifiers HP filters. 7L tuned to 50Hz would avoid most
of the problems of low bass overloading the speakers.
Still a bit bass light (especially if you have no BSC)
in balance, but you will have decent bass reach.

rgds, sreten.

Dave is absolutely correct, a ported box is always 4th order.
One should not confuse this with the fact that you can have
different Q factors which will have a softer or steeper transition
from passband to stop band.

Simulating is good, I do it a lot. But you need to understand what the simulator is telling you, and experience it for yourself. If I were you, I'd just get some cheap MDF and build a few of your options as quick prototypes and listen to them. That way, you can learn to correlate what the graphs/simulations show and what you actually hear.
