Desktop Diamond Buffer (DDB) Headphone Amp

It’s subjective but I think some of them sound smoother when used as coupling caps in the audio path. Especially input caps to the front end of an amp or as AC coupling caps for output at the power stage of single ended amps.

One of my favorites is Elna Silmic 10uF 35v cap for input. It is $0.35 and sounds like a $40 huge film cap. I use them all the time.

There is a thread on DIyA where a member did cap rolling on the output stage of the pocket class A amp that I designed. He found Panasonic XX to be the best. I can’t remember which. It was like FC or something like that.

@xrk971 , you mean using Silmic in the place of the Audyn caps in the input section?

I find some caps might make a difference in a crossover i designed for my speakers . I used clips to change quickly between a few of them.

But for electronics I don’t know.

Speakers are more of a thing for me than headphone amps which I’ve just gotten into. Not nearly the same impact but fun nevertheless

Thanks !

Has anyone here made an 18v version ?

And would there be many different changes to the curcuit?

I tried the Whammy and although pretty good, I had to crank it up very loud to power my Beyer DT1990

Plus headroom is a good thing I always believe

I’m not getting enough interest from people on this headphone amp variant. I can sell you a fully assembled and tested one though - it was one of the verification builds. Nice components.

$110, Ready to Run (RTR). PM me if you are interested. I suppose I could order bare PCBs.
