Ahhh... Iam starting to understand the dilemma. In order to make the sub only producing that part of the spectrum that is not placeable in the stereo field, the satellites need to roll off around 90hz or lower. In order to do that, you need or:
a bigger driver, meaning a bigger satellite, or
a bigger enclosure, meaning a bigger satellite, or
a dedicated mid-woofer, which means a 2-way system.
Especially if the third option is true, a coaxial driver sounds logic to me. Could anyone explain in for me understandable words why the building of a coaxial ystem was a bad idea again?
edit ***attached the seas specifications... seems small an doable to me... not trying to push though ****
Thanks
Erik

since we are talking nearfield, spl and power will be quite low. I never mix on high volume, tires my old ears to quickly 🙂
But I thought that the bigger enclosure was needed to get the roll off low enough...

Quite the opposite , since the two systems would need a 6 dB /oct roll off at crossover frequency ( let's say 100 Hz ) , you need only a little sat that plays gorgeously form 150 Hz and up . Depending upon driver(s) configuration , that is achievable with a little closed box , with lots of stuffing in it .
Hey - 6 dB / OCt is the acoustical natural roll off , not the electric or electronic ( with a 24 dB / oct as an electronic filter for the sub usually does ).

So if I understand you correctly you agree with Helmut that it is possible with a mall satellite while still having the low roll of for sub support?
Someone had built a box with that Seas and he assures that it doesn't need any sub ,'cos it plays sufficiently loud . But then , you'll need to project the box and the crossover .
I like ,when playing loud , clean and crystal undistorted treble , so a tweeter might be more appeable to me . Nevertheless, my previous project was a 3" plus a woofer , so it depends ...

You just have to state your requirements , which might not be mine
Damn ! I just broke my electrical saw bit !! I didn't remember there was
a double layer at the corner !! : )
Luckily , it was the last cm...!

I'm still amazed of how a cheap chinese ( brand : weifi ! ) can sound good if well implemented . The ugly little satellites have been replaced with better Toshiba ones , and put at the top of the wall ( 3.5m ) tilted towards the listener.
The little 5 liter sub on the ground gives enough bass that I can hardly compare it to my two 12 " 😱
Of course , just to play Youtube videos and I tunes ..'cos if you focus on the quality of the source or the distortion at high levels....but for 25 €...🙄😉

after a lot of thinking, I have chosen for a pair of Audience A3 3" full rangers. I got a pretty good deal for them, so... let the building begin! Thanks you all who contributed here to get me thinking, doubting and changing my mind!
I have stumbled upon these drivers: H1333-08/06 T18RE/XFCTV2
How do you guys feel about using such a coaxial driver opposed to a traditional 2 way system?
Sure, those would be great for listening at a short distance from the speakers.
Whoops, never mind!
