Not fixed on an enclosure type as such yet. Just not too big. 800-1000mm high and slim is fine. Very open to ideas which fit the bill.
So is the Pensil 10.3 too big then? A Frugel-HornXL is 963mm tall.

My only concern with something like this is you only have 8 watts, which could be an issue.

It is pushing it but probably my choice so far. I like the FAST idea in general but like the simplicity of a sensitive FR.

Single driver, wide-band (aka full-range) speakers usually do very nicely with genres like acoustic, jazz, and vocals, and even pleasurable with some rock like Dire Straits at moderate volumes; however if the music is more complex and heavy, and you like it LOUD, then they do not fare as well (AC/DC - not so much 😉). Same goes with most low watt amplifiers. 🙂

Personally I do like heavy music but my wife does not like it so much so therefore I don't like it so much anymore🙄
It is mostly for low volume listening of a wide variety of music from 60's to 90's. Rock, accoustic, reggae, alternative, grunge, punk. Kids will be sleeping close by so I want something that will give me good presence at lower volumes from about 3m away. I figure that a sensitive FR might be able to best acheive this. Also will cope with use for TV (not worried about action movies, or surround sound).

Any suggestions for a speaker combo or validated design which would suit low power class A?
All I have built so far is a pair of Overnight Sensations.
Frugel-HornXL with A10p drivers will work well with your 8 watts. Won't melt the wall paper or shake the windows mind you.🙂

Sorry, but I keep coming to the TABAQ with Faitals. But no love. 😉
They offer enough grunt down below to satisfy most of the time, (for movie watching, you can use the sub output of your receiver and add a sub or two in the room), have exceptional treble reach, and at 91dB sensitivity, will offer you much more than the other options mentioned, especially after adding a BSC filter, which will really cripple other drivers.
Plus, the shape has one the the best WAF acceptance.

TABAQ TL for Tang Band
The plans are on the first post for the 4" drivers.
I added a base to mine, so they do not tip over. Basically extended the bottom plate farther out. Your imagination is the limit.

If sensitivity is important, I agree it’s tough to beat Faital Pro 3FE25 as Perceval points out. But you can double that sensitivity by using dual parallel 3FE25-16 in mini Karlsonator. That speaker combo has been verified to work really well with low power Class A amp like the ACA. Its sensitivity is theoretically 91dB +6dB for the parallel driver connection.

A castle style design would up the sensitivity a bit without too much extra complexity.

But, a slimmer, smaller and less expensive option is a version of the Castle referenced above, using one driver pair. I recommend the CHR-70 driver. This speaker is readily built using just one 2’ x 4’ sheet of plywood per channel.
MARTELLO-2, a mini-tower from a single 2' x 4'. - I used the now obsolete EL-70, you can use the CHR-70. These are small enough to flank a TV and be a real spouse pleaser. Bass is very good.
Both of these options have been used with a low power tube amp with great results!
