The point of this article ( and I wish I had not shared it after the headache ) is that compression and expansion are not measured and account for some hidden subtle characteristics of audio components . This should be obvious . Tube amp vs solid state.

And that you can have the benefits of different components and fix some of the limitations. Fine tuning of an aspect that we never talk about or measure but largely Influences our enjoyment of music.
 
The authors use of "current compression" should probably be explained as signal compression due to current relationships. I can see how everyone is not getting it. But it's just a quick glance at some ideas. I am glad we have dissected it.

I hope some people learned something useful to make their system sound better .
 
Getting back to your example the reason that it seems confusing it's because there's a voltage drop and current remains constant in a loop. But the power loss is from the voltage drop. The voltage drop increases when the ratio of current to cross sectional area of the conductor increases. what's actually happening is the more electrons you have flowing through a cross-section the more collisions there are with Atoms. The collisions produce heat. The voltage energy is being dissipated through heat. But the affect is regulated by that ratio of current to conductor cross section.

The amount of current in a conductor actually changes it's resistance . I e a conductor has impedance. It is idealized in circuits because they call it negligible . It is not negligible in certain applications. Speaker wire . Fatter it gets the more bass you get. It's subtle but there.

The same effect is responsible for heat dissipation in any device. It seems counter intuitive because voltage drop causes power loss. But voltage drop is determined from resistance. Resistance changes with current due to increased collisions and also heat.
 
Same phenomena is responsible for heat dissipation in all of the conductors. Whether it's a resistor semiconductor etc. The problem is compounded with every piece in your audio chain. It's not idealy designed it is semi-random. It is a distortion. A specific type we can categorize as compression and expansion.

You do not have an idealized system that you are distorting by applying dynamic EQ. You have a dynamically distorted system that you are trying to make a subjective improvement to with an intelligent analysis of the problem.
 
Yes I agree insignificant . I have said that in this post. I'm done here . It's not worth my energy. If you read the whole post It would really save me a headache. Going in circles about inconsequential points. Like how compression occurs in a conductors.

I have repeated summarized tried to explain for those who are hung up. Tired of this .
