This conversation keeps getting more and more productive. When I researched grounding schemes, every article I read lauded star grounding as the be-all end-all solution to ground noise. This is the first I've heard of it being disparaged. The hum appears to be 60Hz, and it only occurs in two places - the first gain stage, and the reverb recovery circuit, both of which are high gain stages with small input signals. There IS room in the amp for a bus, and it would cut down on the length of wires in the amp.
