THIS IS A THREAD ABOUT DAPHILE
If people want to have a pointless argument with markolino72, would you please do it in another thread? (I say pointless because s/he has virtually zero understanding of how such systems function.)

Hello I want to implement a system with Daphile that acts as server and a Cubox with squeezelite (with R2 -W param) that acts as player (battery powered). Everything seems to works fine except for the upsampling part. The cubox squeezelite is seen by LMS in the advanced properties but not in Daphile in the "Audio Devices" section (where the upsampling parameters can be sets). Is there any possibility to see in Daphile an external player like a dac directly connected to the USB? In Daphile the upsampling is done on the server side or in the client? Many thanks!
Nobody has ever tried this setup? I think it's a fairly common configuration for LMS to have an external player and a remote library manager?

Anyone tried running DAPHILE on this computer?

I like that it is inexpensive and quiet. It says it's fanless, but I'm not sure if the 64GB hard drive is SSD or if it has moving parts. I think I could add external USB SSD drive to it in the future.
Your thoughts?

I run daphile on a wyse thin client C90LEW. I have no problems, they are cheap plentifull. 1ghz, 2gb flash and 1gb memory and external hdd for storage. It feeds an m-dac into a quad amp.
You should have no problems with your system but I am definitely no expert.

That's an interesting option. Does it have a cooling fan built in?
I'm really interested in fanless / noiseless / silent PC.

Note: upon further research, I found another user who could not get audio in Linux to work on above mentioned (ZOTAC ZBOX) PC. He returned it after 3 weeks of frustration. Not to mention, numerous complaints that it an too hot.
p.s. I apologize if I'm off topic a little. None the less, I welcome any suggestions for a silent PC that will run DAPHILE.

I have 2 of these running Daphile fantastically well (purchased used but as new condition for $38 US)

I have one of these, again used, running Daphile. Audio performance is excellent. Interface is sometimes a little slow. 2GB flash storage is the bare minimum to use Daphile currently.

Both are fanless, silent, and have flash storage...
I'm so glad I asked. I found a used thin client on amazon with 2GB ram + 2GB flash for $40 and free shipping.
Previously I was looking at a $1500 unit from endpcnoise.com. That would have been awesome, but overkill for this application.
Thanks again all of you!

No fan so completely quiet, I run to one as server and one as a client. Have a look at h**p://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/That's an interesting option. Does it have a cooling fan built in?

They also use almost no power.

These would not be powerful enough if you want to do real time DSD upsampling. Need a minimum 2 x 3Ghz or 4 x 2Ghz? May be OK if you use it just as the player with the upsampling being done in the server?
Can you please confirm if these can play DSD256 media with less than 50% CPU usage (see the info tab). Register to www.nativeded.com to get access to some free samples.
So the thin client (shipping now) runs an Atom N280 with 2GB RAM and 2GB Flash hdd. It has 2 USB 2.0 ports. Considering it's only $40, I can give it a try without breaking the bank.
I won't do DSD right now anyway. My path will be: Thin Client > Peachtree X1 USB to SPDIF > nanoDIGI/miniDSP> 3 identical DACs > 6 amp channels > one stereo pair of 3-way speakers.
I don't believe my DSP can process DSD (PCM only I think). I'll be happy to feed it 24/192 bit perfect.
If all goes well, I may upgrade computer to something with 4GB RAM, and 8GB SSD, with USB 3.0.
I've been reading a lot, and I'm only up to Feb 2014 in this thread. WOW, Kilpatra has put a lot of effort and energy into this, and offers it to us for nothing! Anyone know how Kilpstra is? I haven't seen any new posts since June 2016?
I'm wondering if there's an advantage to actually installing this on the HD, or if it would work just as well if I simply put DAPHILE on a bootable USB/SSD stick?
I'll likely use DAPHILE to listen to Tidal hi-res streaming radio most often. I have some very few FLAC from HDTracjs too, so I might start building a library as well. It's a short cat5 run to my router, so I'll just drop a wire behind the sofa. I'm guessing that would give less potential for wifi-drops and related hiccups.
Cheers

Kilpsta is still very active and will invariably respond to queries raised in the contact tab of the daphile web page. Note the Daphile Beta can be sourced from Index of /firmware/beta with the latest release being 17.04-b07150 on 7 April 2017. I highly recommend you try the beta given it is based on the latest releases of Linux and LMS.

I can't figure out how to install TIDAL app. Anyone know how?
I'm controlling Daphile by going to http: //daphile.local with the browser on my iPhone. I've also tried the iPeng app. Both of those work fine to control Daphile PC, but no Tidal app access.
I have registered with mysqueezebox.com I'm not sure what to try next
On mysqueezebox website, I have clicked the TIDAL app. I set up Tidal app with my paid Tidal username and password.
I can never get Tidal to appear as an App when I go to daphile/local nor iPeng. I can not control daphile PC from my squeezebox.com, maybe that's why I can't use Tidal?
I am listening to local FM Streaming Radio through Daphile. Sounds very nice. I have not listened to FM Radio in ages, and I've never before been able to listen to the HD Radio. Some stations even offer me option for me to choose my stream in Daphile, like AAC 96 or...
Sounds really nice! I'm very pleased with all of Kipata's hard work!
Someone please let me know if you have a tip for using Tidal with Daphile.

Although I don't have a Tidal account I tried to get the App as you did. It did not work, until I went into the "Advanced Media Server Settings" and got into the "Advanced" tab and selected "Software Updates" in the dropdown list. Here I changed the setting "Don't check for software updates" to "Automatically check for software updates" and clicked on Apply. After this I clicked the Audio Player tab and saw Tidal in the My Apps list.
I can't test it, but I assume it will work for you then hopefully.
That helps a lot. Thank you!
I can't figure out how/why this sounds so much better than when I was feeding my DAC with the Optical out from AppleTV? Later I upgraded to a USB to S/PDIF Converter, and I was streaming Tidal to that from my iPhone (via USB Camera Connetion Kit). Both of these solutions were near equally good in sonic quality. I liked plugging the phone in directly, because I can avoid wifi drops and things like that.
My thought with trying Daphile, was that I could have the PC, feeding the DAC plugged in with cat5, (so no wifi drops in playback), and still control the music via my phone, but now cordless remote.
Frankly, I have been feeling blown away! All day long, every song I heard, bass tighter, imaging more focused and sharp, more depth in the recordings, better separation of voices and instruments.
How can this be?! Am I going crazy?! It's the same USB to S/PDIF Converter, same DAC, Speakers, Amp, everything the same. How can anything upstream of the DAC possibly have any effect on sound quality?

So how did you install on the HP T5740? Did you use a USB Drive? Are you using i486 or 64 bit version?
I'm not sure why I'm stuck:
I wonder if the way I'm creating the Defile Live (ISO) image is not correct? I've tried a few different ones listed in the instructions, like unetbootin and others.
After I create the Defile Live USB on my laptop, I put it in the thin client and boot from USB. I just get a black screen.
Got any ideas?

Thin Client: HP T5740
Then with a keyboard and monitor connected boot from the Daphile usb stick and select the set up options.
It finds the internal flash storage and offers to wipe this ready for install.
Accept and continue booting.
Once booted you will need to connect from another device (the ip is shown on the monitor) and you can install to the prepared partition.
I'm just back from holiday and will be unpacking the workshop over the next few days so will have the HP T5740 running then and can give further assistance if needed.
Edit... I use linux so followed the install instructions...
4.3 Linux
Run the following command, replacing /dev/sdx with your drive.
sudo dd if=/path/to/daphile.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=1M && sync
Find out the name of your drive with lsblk. Make sure that it is not mounted.
If I recall unetbootin didn't work for me. I used the i486 beta...http://www.daphile.com/firmware/private-beta/
