Hi.
I‘ve encountered an annoying problem which I hope some of you may know how to fix.
I`ve been using Daphile for years by playing from a laptop to a dac obviously. My current set-up is an old IBM laptop
connected to my Eximus DP1 dac by usb. It`s been streaming radio for weeks and months without issues.
Due to a power outage in my house while the system was playing the dac obviously stopped. So once thr power was restored I simply turned of the laptop, and then both dac and laptop on again. However, ever since this incident the program keeps dropping the connection to the dac meaning that suddenly the dac isn`t available as audio player. If I restart or unplug/plug the dac back in again it will play for a while but then again drop the connection.
I`m running the latest version of the software.
Any good suggestions as what to do? System is all set at default values as I`m not very experienced with computer audio, other than having enjoyed Daphile for the last 5 years.

You might try a fresh install. Also try and check the DAC with a different operating system to rule out any operational anomalies within the DAC.
This was to some extend the answer that I expected, but hadn`t hoped for. Not a problem to re-do the software installation, more a matter about my private music files consisting of more than 4500 cd`s of which part of them are stored on the internal drive of the laptop and has to be reinstalled afterwards.
Oh you don't have to do that.
Daphile should preserve your laptop's files just fine if they're in a different partition.
You didn't store it in Daphile's partition, correct?

Hi.
Thanks for the reply. I`ve been doing some further troubleshooting and it seems to be a network issue.
Either the program looses the connection to the wifi while streaming radio, or wise versa. When playing a music file on repeat it simply continues forever.
Right now I can`t access the IP adress while the system is playing a file, so definitely network or bluetooth issue.
How do I check the partition mentioned above in case I need to re-install the program?
Thanks!

You'll need Ubuntu or another OS on a pendrive, and boot from there. It should be able to read the partition table and enable you to manipulate files etc. With some more time, you can also use it to make a new partition on the disk, and move the files to the new partition. Having done this, you can format the original Daphile partitions (don't rename them) and see if Daphile installation can detect the drives. Personally my music is stored on a different drive, so I've never done it this way - but it should work.
Your problem sounds like the Media Server is corrupted. I've had this a couple of times with some of the older versions, and have always had to start over.

Mounting external USB HDD at boot on Daphile.
Hi all,
Anyone more clever than me who knows how to get Daphile to mount an external USB HDD at boot/startup?
I use this command now to mount it > "sudo mount -t ntfs UUID=0804068F0804068F /srv/mediaserver/music/Internal\ Drives/Music"
It works but it's pretty annoying to do it manually everytime Daphile have been shutdown.
I've tried to study on the Gentoo wiki but can't figure it out. The Dev has put this in the "fstab" file >
"# Just dummy entry to disable boot time warning about empty fstab
# Daphile local mounting does not use standard Gentoo process
#
none /media tmpfs rw 0 0"
I also tried writing to the Dev but he's not very active it seems.
Hope some can help?
All the best.

Hello
I have Daphile on a thin client. I select what is to be played by an rf usb remote control. Always in the past I could also select using another pc via its ip address. I can do both but playing different tracks, totally interdependent. How can I get back to only one track on either usb remote control or over the network.
Help appreciated
thanks

Daphile questions-
I assume it can use internal CD to rip from.
Does it have options for backup and restore - hoping I could use my Vortexbox backup as I have a huge number of albums already ripped
Does it do a good job of pulling cover art in when ripping?

So now got Daphile running in place of Vortexbox.
Is there any trick to getting a dual band wifi card to work in Daphile?
I just swapped my server over to a newer laptop that has a dual band wifi (Intel, don't remember what model - internal, not USB). It will connect fine at 5GHz, but 2.4 GHz is brutally slow - it takes forever to even load the webpage (if at all). I don't recall seeing any thing in the BIOS regarding wifi, so I don't know if there's something behind the scenes that should be configured in Daphile (via ssh?)
5GHz works fine, but because of the distance between my laptop (Acer Nitro BE) and the router, 2.4GHz should theoretically give me a more reliable signal

since Daphile is a closed image it's not that easy to tweak (if not at all - especially for specific WLAN-chips). If you want to be able to tweak things then I would suggest to install a standard Linux image (e.g. Ubuntu or Debian) and install LMS (server+squeezelite) on this. From the linux OS you can get your WLAN working the way you want it and use LMS as you would do with Daphile. Is there any trick to getting a dual band wifi card to work in Daphile?

Out of curiosity: why did you go to a laptop and use wifi? It's a bit odd to use the laptop for Daphile from a distance. I would go for a LAN-wired PC/server and run LMS-client (i.e. Squeezelite) on the laptop for that matter. Running LMS/Daphile on a server can serve as music-center for multiple LMS-clients.
Why a laptop and wifi? Purely for convenience. I bought a new laptop earlier this summer and rather than spend money on a nuc or something, why not repurpose a device that'll be just collecting dust (same reason my old setup was based on an even more obsolete laptop). I'm not in a position to start busting open walls and running network cables, so I'm stuck with wifi for the time being.since Daphile is a closed image it's not that easy to tweak (if not at all - especially for specific WLAN-chips). So far, there hasn't been any issues running on 5GHz. No dropped signal, plenty fast enough to pull hires files off my NAS. I just noticed the other day that Daphile was reporting my signal at ~33% and I know switching to 2.4GHz should improve that.
This laptop will only be used for music server purposes, so I'm not inclined to install a full Linux build - FTR, I have had Mint running on it and had no usage issues with either band. If there isn't any "easy" fix for this using Daphile, I'll just stick with what's working ATM
The drivers for newer WLAN chips is not present in the latest Daphile images, and will not be till the author adds support. Is there any trick to getting a dual band wifi card to work in Daphile?
Older dual band wifis work fine at both 2.4 and 5G (I think all cards released till late 2019/early 2020 do).
The laptop is ~2016 vintage. One review I found mentioned Intel 7265, but I'd need to boot up a live image to see for sureThe drivers for newer WLAN chips is not present in the latest Daphile images, and will not be till the author adds support.

Unusual. I have both wifi bands working well on an Intel Celeron NUC, as well as another little ITX machine somewhere. I prefer to use 2.4G anyway to prevent slowdown to my 'proper' 5GHz devices.
You might want to try a Daphile re-install, and see if both bands work properly in the Live OS. It could be a flaky wifi card, unless you've already eliminated that possibility.

My first Daphile install on this machine used 2.4GHz (or at least tried to) so I can't imagine a reinstall will help. It is connected to the network, but it just seems to freeze trying to load any of the webpages so I can't even get to a log to see what's happening. I'll grab a copy of Mint or something and check to make sure the 2.4 band is still working, but IIRC the last time I tried Mint both bands were OKUnusual.
