Will the layout of the cloth make or break a good speaker?
I have seen good quality manufactures lay the cloth nicely on all sides in the box and I have seen them just stuff it in, does it make a difference to sound quality?
Thanks

Very true,
But it’s a sealed box
How much do I put in, it stands 100cmH x 23D x 30W
I suppose enough to fill it so there are no walls showing
Its very thick stuff too almost 10cm thick

Hi,
The damping cloth has the max effect at those places in the box where the air velocity is max. That generally is when the standing wave modes of the box are excited, with the max air velocity AWAY from the box panels. The max velocity locations are mid between panels, 1/3 between panels, 1/4 between panels etc depending on the harmonics of the resonants. Higher harmonics have lower amplitude, so the bottom line is that max air velocity normally occurs in the middle of the box. Lining the box panels with damping cloth therefore has minimal effects.

PS I assume you mean "damping" as in to suppress movement. "Dampening" means make damp, make wet.
