Underfloor insulation 2" think one brand is floormate very hard.

Usually you find some leftover at construction sites or ones with broken corners at the local lumber yard.

Glue with plyurethane then cutting nicely isn´t critical.

Very interesting idea......it sounds difficult to cut at 2" thick. I have zero tools (except a drill and a Dremel) Even if I had material one of my hang ups here is seizures caused by the tumors, so cutting and that kind of thing isn't a good idea for me....before I knew it I'd have a driver mounted in my forearm!!

You dont need any powertools.

Normal Handsaw for wood works perfectly.

Round holes for speaker with a woodknife.

When you glue push in some 4" nails to align pieces and tape it firmly.

Reinforce mountinghole with thin plywood both sides and use those nuts u press in from the backside.

Sand it and put on a nice fake leather wrapping with spraymount.

You can cut your logo into the front before wrapping.

Design speaker on low budget !!!!!!!

That sounds like a cool project......funny you mention leather! I have some nice black suede I had pondered putting on my cabinets before they grew feet and wandered off.

crazy what peeps will steal. ~25 years ago I had a house with a fair amount of stereo stuff - Bruce Moore 140 watt per channel custom tube amps, GSI modLuxman 3045s, Magnepans, Mac MR71, tonearms, T350 EV tweeters, etc. The house was in Huntington, WV directly across a two lane street from the county jail. Thieves must have carried out equipment for two days including some huge speaker cabinets for an electronic church organ but sharp ol' deputy dawg didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.... about the only thing left was a Shahinian Contrebombarde on the 2nd floor which had no visible speakers. Hope U have fun making new homes for your drivers.

Ouch.....makes my complaints seem trivial

Well I went on a material hunt....with no new construction going on around here I came up empty there. I headed to a local speaker shop (know for gig type speakers with carpet and such). I asked him how much for a simple BR cabinet just mounting wholes cut and slapped together (NO carpet please).....I'll put all the hardware in........$250!!! I didn't even dare ask about a more intricate cabinet. I grabbed the one thing I saw and could afford at a local thrift shop.....brand new Styrofoam boxes for something delicate (who knows what). They are quite thick and have tight fitting lids.....I'm not sure how to cut this stuff without making it look like I did it with a weed whacker though

That's exactly what I pictured in my head but wasn't sure what to call it. I'll maybe head to Home Depot tomorrow and check them out.

Does anyone have idea on how to "seal" this thing? I have an idea to keep the lid removable but also sealed. My concern is coating the inside and outside with something or is that even required? Thoughts?

Watch out for "coating" styrofoam - some paints might actually "melt" it. Leaving the inside "raw" and unfinished is most likely a good thing as it will tend to act as a sound absorber - although you might still need a bit of stuffing. As far as coating the outside goes - hmmmmmm..... gluing on favorite beer labels in sort of a montage might be cool.

I wondered about the "melting" too....I think I'll leave it alone and fill if needed. As for the outside......LOVE that idea! It gave me an idea to move forward. I imagine (pretty much know) these will sound like garbage but should be a riot to put together and probably one of a kind

These things are so thick I held the FE127e over the lip and when mounted the magnet will barely clear the baffle....I'm going to have to shape the back of the baffle and then I worry about it being to thin at the driver mounting points....the way things would have to be worked to fit, it just might not work out at all

I donno - with a decent port factored in (read paper towel roll) you just might have a pretty decent sounding pair of speakers. Don't forget that the Fostex will take quite a few hours to "age" in. My 167's took a couple hundred hours before they sounded "right" (welllllllll - right for a 167 anyway). 🙄

What are the inside dimensions of the box's ya have?

I have a few ports scavenged from other speakers so I'll cut something to fit.
My 127's have a few thousand hours on them would be my guess (I got them used and they apparently had nearing 1000 hours when I got them) and are quite nice. My 126's have been with me a short time and had just a few hours on them......I had them going 24/7 for the first week and they settled down a bit in that short time.
