Hello Quangho,
I'm a little bit confused with the price for the full DAC assembled and tested.
I have joined this GB in the beginning and I ordered the option 6 which was quoted at 900USD (with basic plastic remote, assembly and testing with discrete output stages) (original post #2 and confirmed in post #284)
I have paid 2 x 450 USD for this option (09 January and 04 March).
Now when I read the thread, I see some extra fees like "assembly" for 80USD or "Alumunium remote" for 40USD.
I don't know exactly where these extra fees have appeared, but the first posts have not been updated to annouce these extra costs.
So now I don't know exactly how much I should pay you to get the DAC delivered to France.
I don't need the aluminium remote, the plastic one would be fine for me.
Please PM to me to know what are the extra charges I should pay you. (shipping to France).
Many thanks.
Vincent aka vmoreau

I think it would be useful to clarify the pricing prior to the next GB. E.G. does option 9 include option 7: DAC controller 4x20 lcd to use with version 1
price 40$?

Hello Everyone,
I just got the DAC 2, with standard output stage, nothing special. Just want to report my first impression of the unit. First the negative, the unit came with some loose screws inside, I had to open the unit and look for the screws and figure out where it should be. Next I noticed that the Amanero was not securely fastened to the board, or the chassis, I had to find a standoff with the right length to secure the Amanero. I downloaded the driver for the Amanero, hook it up to my computer and setup foobar2000. Listen to some music that I knew to see if I can hear a difference. Well, gentlemen and ladies, at least for me, this DAC is a killer, my only complain is that the bass is just a tad flabby. Other than that, this DAC is perfect. Speed, decay, and everything else seems to sound right and very pleasing. I really like the sound of this DAC, very nice, I thank Guangho for job well done.
Thanks,
Alex

Hello all,
now i also want to report my first impressions.
1. My parts where very well packaged and all arrived in good condition.
2. I mounted the DAC on a platform and pushed the mains button: all ok, it came up and working.
3. I tried first the TOS-Link input.
Problem 1: the tv output produces drop out every 20 s. Not usable.
4. Problem 2: the rPi usb output over amanero: even more drop outs. Not usable. I have to think about a new solution for me.
5. Finally i got the TOS-Link input working with my normal PC.
6. The coax input works very good without any problem.
7. I measured the DC output of the output stages: 0.1 - 0.5mV. Nothing to do. So i will not do anything and did not learn how to adjust it.
The sound: when the dac accepts my input there is an unbelievable detailed, clear, realistic sound with so many tone colors i never heard before over my equipment. The risetime and sudden free-standing sound is very impressive.
Thank you Quanghao.
Like adeveza wrote, only the bass could be a little bit stronger.
Now i have to struggle with my sources.
As i asked here before it should be possible to send the rPi i2s output directly to the DAC.
Question: But which sound device does the Es9018 then present to computer, if any? When i plug the amanero to the rPi there the amanero is the sound card. But what is, when i have no "card" between the rPi and the DAC?
I'm a little afraid of connecting because of destroying the DAC.
Thanks

I'm happy to stand corrected but in my view you cannot provide I2S signal directly to this DAC. Amanero is your USB to I2S converter. You could obviously try to bypass Amanero but what for really? I hope you don't believe volumio guys trying to tell the world that USB is a crap idea. They are surely right that USB on Rpi is crap though.

I have the first gen dac, and am looking at trying a rpi and i2s. I think you would need to remove the amanero and input the i2s signals into the amanero header. You would tell the dac to use the usb input.
If you already have a rpi there is really nothing to lose by trying it (IMHO).
I ordered a pi yesterday so it will take me a little while to before I get the pi going to try this.

Hi Randy,
you are rhight.
I think it works. Previously I was a little confused.
The hifiberry is the pcm5102 dac and here it is the es9018 dac. It's the same level. I don't know why i thought I need an additional layer. You only need the appropriate driver.

p.s. I changed my choice to option 6, with boards for transformer, as I want to try this first and then build the transformer version for comparison. Gives me a greater sense of contribution.

Quanghao,
My kit did not come with cable from remote to the DAC. Can I soldered directly??
You sent 2 transformer since I use LL1684 kit, how do I connect both transformer to the DAC??

OK... BTW for the transformer... I should connect 0-6.5V to the DAC, right??
Now I see why I need 2 transformers. Because All I need just 2x6.5V.
Please correct me if I'm wrong before connecting it...

In post 564 Linuxfan described how to connect a rpi to this dac.
There are some free rpi builds that should support this, I will probably try volumio first
Home - Volumio - Audiophile Music Player
runeaudio is another option
RuneAudio - Embedded Hi-Fi music player
Good luck
Randy
Hi Randy and all interested,
I tried both Volumio and RuneAudio. Volumio is the more advanced system, but since i tried arch, thats the cooler distro for me.
The first version of rune didn't have the kernel drivers for i2s support. So i compiled my own kernel. That was a longer procedure, but i suceeded finally. The only issue is now the proper loading at boot time. I have to load 2 modules extra. Perhaps the newest version of rune plays out of the box. Volumio should do it.

Maybe a bit off topic here...as a music streamer I would suggest piCorePlayer. It supports I2S on raspberry pi out of the box. The sqeezebox system is by far my favourite. Can't wait to connect the I2S output of my pi to quanghao's dac!
Hi Sandor,
please report how you make the connection. I downloaded piCorePlayer and experienced a little. But for me the above solutions work better. The future will tell us.

Thanks for the update. I have VERY limited linux knowledge, so I will probably stay away from Rune for now, having the compile a kernel scares me.
