Be able to tell you soon, one arrived today.

Also tried to use the Sjostrom Diamond buffers but there was too much DC, need to work it out.

Sorry about a little bit off topic, I hope you can forgive me now that I am a "dark sider"🙂
As so much we are alike brother, I too have 4 of the SSB01, two of them just about completed. I like the DIP8 adaptation you did... but to my question.
Did you figure out the dc on the output? How much are we talking about?

Digging through the thread, good man.

No I wasn't thinking properly, diamond buffers are not for this application, wrong thing entirely. At best they could go after the op-amp / IV stage or before or after the pot if needed.

Mine have been used with the muses Volume control, they work very well there. Use them in a few head amps like that.

A few more pictures.

@NIXIE62 That's the way, nice and compact.

What is the benefit of 8 bit AHCT shift registers? PCM1704 is 24 bit, something to do with it, I'm not very knowledgeable on the digital domain.

Is that a protection module on the back panel before outputs?

edit - sorry you wrote PCM1702, not 4. Would PCM1704 be ok?
AHCT shift registers are faster than HCT. I don't know what the advantages are and whether there are any. I have them because we used to get them at Mouser a couple of years ago when there was a parts shortage, instead of HCT's which were not available. That's why I use them.

On the back panel is the Mute circuit with the NE555 and small relay. The function is a delay of the output signal when switching on for a few seconds, and a quick shutdown when the power is turned off.

I don't know about the PCM 1704, only for the PCM1702 we accidentally discovered that AHCT is not to his liking.

I will try that soon. The U30 has a lot of favorable reviews, and it is physically exactly the same as the Amanero and pin compatible. I just need to replace them 1:1. I assume there is no problem with WIN10 drivers? I assume there is no problem with the drivers for WIN10, as happened before with some other Chinese USB/I2S cards?

A few more pictures.
Needless to say, a love your build a lot!
You already told me about the case, (have to look for the message though), questions:
-with the +/-5V you're supplying USB module, screen module, possibly screen and DAC, right? No issues?
-what are the modules on the top left, these with LEDs?
  • what opamps are you using,
  • only USB input?

-did you already find a less expensive U30 USB module?

Thanks and compliments!

Thanks.

Box: https://www.ebay.com/itm/374691527231 (Size 301*190*65mm)
or https://www.ebay.com/itm/273423954950 (Size 311* 194* 70mm)
or https://www.ebay.com/itm/272809363100 (Size 308* 215* 70mm)

Power supplies: I have one PSU2 with +-12V and +-5V for the DAC board. Amanero is powered by a PC USB port. I have two power supplies with 7812 & 7805 for Mute and Display separately. I have separate secondaries for everything. (12V 0.5A, 12V 0.5A, 9V 0.6A and 14V 0.2A). Custom made transformer 20VA on 30VA core, static shield and magnetic shield. The display consumes the most current, around 140mA.

Opamps: Burson V6 Classic, V7 Classic, and I will try the others that I have (SS3601, OPA1655, OPA1641A, OPA1611, Burson V5).

The DAC has only a USB input. You can put an SPDIF receiver (AK4118/4113 with display and I2S switch) instead of the display, but in that case I think that a different box is needed. Maybe it can be packed into this bigger box (308* 215* 70). You definitely have to sketch everything before buying the box.

@Brijac got the U30 for about 50eur so I will try it. I guess it's better than Amanero.
