Yes philschl,
those cores are the same material I was using years ago. They came from bulk PVC rolled up like a TP roll. You'll find those in alot of industrial winding applications. I used to work at coating facility that had them but shut down would like to find more of those. Someone must supply them in bulk somewhere. Much better than Concrete forms.

PVC tubes have their advantages and disadvantages. Easy enough to cut cleanly but quite hard to paint. Seemingly; perhaps I've not found the right type. I ended up using carpet finishes instead for subs.
Super-rigid too, especially those with thicker wall diameters. I tried the cardboard tubes but found PVC easier to work with, and preferred its greater rigidity.
I always fancied trying a tube within a tube TL but never quite got round to that.
Tried a BIB speaker though, and that worked well, once I'd worked out how to mount a driver on the outside; just cut a round hole and inserted the right-sized pipe in the hole to use to mount the driver.
I stuffed a tight fitting piece of hardboard/plywood down the centre as the divider, capped one end, and half capped the other. Seemed to work pretty well with some full range drivers. But in the end, the Missus kindly requested I "remove the drain pipes from the living room....."
She much prefers the Karlsonators; likes the Eiffel tower look of the Karlson slot.

Not necessarily easy. It was quite the effort with the BIG blade table saw to cut the 12” PVC to lenght evenly.
It is hard to piant. I used flat-black and put a sock over my build. With the right primer you could probably do a good job. Vinyl wrap or even thin veneer could be used for a prettier finish.

Perhaps she would like a Metronome?

Or perhaps anything not made by me!
I have this Ryobi multitool thingy, with a vibrating blade - kind of like the one nurses use to remove plaster casts - and it cuts through PVC accurately and cleanly. Simple enough to sand to level.
PVC seems to do nasty things to table saw blades, at least in my experience.

I’ve cast a concrete speaker between two rolled up sheets of corrugated iron.

If this is of interest I’ll put your name in for immediate access? If it shows up as ‘public’ then it’s a done deal already.

It's listed 'public', 'visible' and some stuff is visible, but too small to read [can't blow it up]. I clicked 'join' in case it makes a difference.........
I assumed so since I'm on the HOQS. 😉 Just saw/answered the 'rules' request, so hopefully soon, though in searching your moniker I get nada, so again:

18” woofer in cardboard cylinder.
I built this over the past couple of weeks. I’m happy so far. Still no stuffing and it needs external finish but already sounds grand. The driver is mcm the amp a nobsound. The tube is 940h x 550od x 25 wall. The best bit is I’ve got a couple more 😉
