The only place to go for a good frame today is DEVIL666 in germany. He is a good old competitor of mine 🙂
I have thought about making a frame or two for myself as a hobby project. Simply because you cant get anything real good anymore, and the Klein will involentarily retire within maximum 5 years from now.

well if youve got the skills i think its rude not to. still surprised theres NO semi mass production decent stuff about any more like gary fisher n klein

Only cannondale left, and their prices have gone through the roof. You get NOTHING under 4,000usd. For that price you can have a DEVIL666 custom made.

ooooo my friends got an old cannondale, back when they were hundreds, not the thousands that they are now by the sounds of it. ive still never tried a bike with their headshox. are they still persevering with that or have they given up yet. im guessing its a bit too flimsy a configuration for a lot of stuff people do these days
They still do headshock, but its part of the reason the price range have gone waaay off target. Sure the quality is fine and their headshock and moto forks are hard to kill......but the fork alone is 1000 usd for the skimpy versions. Dont even think of maintainance cost 🙁

i shall surely try not to!! its 5am now so i ought to go sleep at some point. i can dream about the extortionate prices of modern mtb's, should be fun 🙂

Why?
Cause if you dont the head of the bolt and the nut will dig into the relatively soft aluminium. Especially as you have to expect such a box to opened frequently.

I never seen washers on good, stereo equipment. But I guess it was not meant to be opened often😉 When it's anodized, it's not that much of a problem.
I see washers everywhere on aircrafts though.

Exactly.
The anodizing will wear off quite fast if opened a few times.
Washers are generally spared on consumer equipment because of the need for manual installation. There have been a few examples of bolts with the washer clipped on, but they looked expensive.

Personally, I don't like the look of the washers on stereo equipment, that's why I don't use them. I never experienced any substantial wear either. You don't see it anyway.
Ive been using 0.5mm thick washers for a while with no problems VS. the regular 2mm type. The thin version isnt visible.

Wowser, there was just one reply when I went to bed last night. Thanks to everyone for all your responses relevant and otherwise. I've got two MTB's one's alluminium and the other's crabon fibre, are bikes commom to all audio fanatics?. I believe BMXs are largely steel because of the way steel fails less catastrophically than aluminium. It's also much easier to weld the frame back together after you've wrecked it.
Anyway, I've got some more questions now.
Tapping, is that making a thread for a screw or bolt?
What's a blind hole?
What are plug taps?
Thanks again so much for all your responses. I reckon my first attempt at chain drilling should be a dream after so much advice from the worlds two leading experts 🙂

What you probably suspected....
Exactly.Tapping, is that making a thread for a screw or bolt?
A hole that does not pass all the way through a piece of material. What's a blind hole?
Taps designed for finishing off tapping a blind hole. (To get the thread tapped as close to the bottom as possible). What are plug taps?
