Hey, folks
Before anyone jumps in, yes i have searched, and i hve come up with a wealth of knowledge that has helped me so far, but i am begining to lose the will...
I have progressed from a projection panel on a crappy ohp to a now dismanteled (with a bleedin line down the very edge of the screen) LCD IO DATA monitor...
But i'm havin trouble with brightness, i think this might be because of my reflector, using a 400w Tubular Metal Halide light similar to http://kickme.to/diyvp
but haven't really found a suitable reflector yet....
I am getting a bit stroppy about this at the moment, particulary because of the money and the stripe on the lcd so my question is this, would anyone say it's preferable to use a decent ohp instead of building your own?
Recently picked up a dirt cheap 3M 9400 for £16 works great, is as bright as hell and would do the trick, uses EVD 36v 400w bulbs...(anyone know the life expectancy of these puppies?)
Just askin in case i'm missing somethin, i would have preferred to have built the thing myself from scratch but now i just want it finished so i can fire it up an watch MOVIES!!!!!!!!
I know pictures would have been great but the digital camera is on holiday at the moment with my dad
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Best Regards

in the UK...
crusers info is good...however a UK equivalent is
EVD Standard 75 hours 8.50 ex VAT
EVD Premium 150 hours 10.25 ex VAT
EVD Long Life 300 hours 13.75 ex VAT (I believe..)
I did a little research on these lamps and after speaking to Osram and my supplier it turns out the lumens output of the 3 types of bulbs listed above, (pre-fresnel) are 16000, 14500, and 12200 respectively.
Unless you're particularly motivated to research into and build a HQI set-up with ultra-long life high-output bulbs, then save yourself some grief and stick with the 3M PJ you've already got. As long as the stage glass and fresnel are clean, the condensor lens and triplet objective lens are in good condition, and the PJ is not too noisy, then you're laughing!

Re: in the UK...
Hey, I think i might stick with it.
Around my area though the specialist lamp shops don't seem that specialist....I can get a normal EVD for £7.50 including VAT which is not bad but no-one has heard of anything above that...
Can you tell me your source if you don't mind?
Thanks

yep
www.aalighting.co.uk
They ship next day Securicor for £6.50.....a little expensive, but the bulbs themselves are a good price, and it doesn't work out too bad if you buy more than one bulb at a time.
On the product search line just type in EVD, or the code numbers for the three models quoted above
64663
64664
64665
Good luck.
Also, theres a guy selling some on ebay at the moment
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2537663230&category=4785&rd=1
£5.35 each (75 hour type) with £1.40 shipping.
He's selling them as disco light bulbs - but that's because he thinks thats all they are used for!
Grab a bargain!
