This thread is a build thread for the latest showcase project in parts express. I decided to build a pair because of A. Cost (my dad is funding it for his home theater and couldn't care less about it so I had to sell him on a reasonable price) and B. I needed something that sounded good above 80hz...I have plenty of subwoofer for the room so no need for a speaker to play low) and I needed something less than 9 inches wide (height is not a problem)
I'm using 3/4" Baltic Birch for the front face of the cabinet and 3/4" MDF for the rest. The fronts will be sanded smooth and stained, the rest will be sanded and painted black, with half round edges on the MDF and 45 deg edges on the Birch.
The drivers and crossover components just arrived and I have the wood as well. So I'll post construction pics starting tomorrow!

Interesting budget design, should go seriously loud for what it is.
Bit sparse on the cabinet details though ....
The adventurous might try some aperiodic vents ....

There is a thread on the tech talk forums about these. And Curt chimes in about cabinet design and mentions the vents. I will post the link and info later, I'm on my phone now.

haven't followed the discussion on PE's site - but looking at the freq resp curves, I'd have opted for a small series inductance (about 0.5mh or even less) to tame the slowly rising response of the tweeter.
It is possible that the designer did this to offset the hump in the upper bass region that is shown, but that's not the best way to do things, imo...

I can always mess around with the crossover network later on after they are completed and see if i can improve on it at all....( i'm not saying that i can, just saying i can mess around with it...)
Got the spacing and flush mount routing done....
taking shape...the array should look nice when done!
nice tight fit...the driver actually has to be pressed in to place it doesn't just drop in....(the OD is exact)

little update...just finished the second one, they are great for the budget build!
I have them high passed at 60hz, and Flat on the EQ. I will need some more time to dial the settings in, but they are crisp and clear. slightly bright, but i need a good blu ray to mess with them. (they are strictly HT, no music)
I like the efficiency of them, much better for my weak onkyo tx-sr607 receiver.
Laid down some paint on the MDF portion...

Decided to buy parts to build a matched center channel and parts to build another pair for a friend. More to come!
Got bored, had some extra baltic birch, so i decided to get started on them!!
let the routing begin! i had all the sizes marked on my circle Jig, so this time around it was a lot easier!!
sliced em up....anddd i'm out of wood for now. gotta go grab some more birch and finish these in the near future!
