A lot to be said for that, not the least of which being cost! A respected Australian designer told me, that once he has something he is happy with he starts removing components, till he has the simplist version that still does the job!
Attached is a screenshot of the cost of the components in my version. I was a bit shocked at how quickly it added up, and they were all budget range components!

$207 wow - I have always believed that for $150 I can get an active 2x4 miniDSP and two class D amps that will cost less than a basic passive XO. Plus you can change it at will.
That's a very active stance, now isn't it? Even so- I'm in agreement with you!

One thing I know is that you can only listen to one set of speakers at a time. Active setup can be a XO for any of your speakers at the moment you are listening. No point in tying up all that money in caps and coils sitting there passively and unused when a speaker is unused. Basically an active setup is like having an infinite supply of caps and coils for your speaker du jour. I switch around a lot and once an active XO is dialed in, I keep it rather than tweak it but can switch between speakers very quickly.
It occurred to me that I haven't checked the TT PE forum
so I went there and it really shows how opinions are divided
and what's really interesting is how certain individuals react in
a way that you (I) wouldn't think to be probable.
To answer a question why I had put optional system impedance
flattening networks is:
1. there was no rule against it
2. some of the tube amps might benefit from it
