And, if the input is referenced to ground, would it work better if connecting the cathode resistor to a negative supply, say 12V?

Its not an SRPP despite a similar look at first glance. its cascode
plate follower, driving a cathode follower. With some sort weidro
bridge/mixer. Nothing about it works like typical SRPP except for
Broskie style power supply rejection. Its about as alien to SRPP
as any circuit ever... And was surely intercepted in one of those
moments I forgot the aluminum foil party hat.
I don't have a problem with local feedback, where the phase
shift can be well controlled.
