Hi Nordic-
The board is 4.1" x 2.1". It'll also need a trafo with roughly 24-25VCT (12 - 12.5 x 2).
It is a stereo pre with buffered output and an option input buffer.
The boards and kits should be available in a few weeks. The kits will include everything except the trafo (though I am thinking of adding that) and the optional input buffer parts (which should be available as an upgrade option kit).
Pricing will be available this week.

I need a preamp badly as I have no volume control for my inverted GC, don't want to do the pot messing with the gain thing....
Don't want to go back through the 12 pages to find out if its a stereo PCB or mono design, and what the dimensions are (busy planning case size to house the giant transformer I have with the amp and pre in 1 minihifi style cube)
Hi Nordic,
I have put off the FreeBird and YardBird for a bit (not permanently) to focus on the Kookaburra which you can read about here:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=738589#post738589
The production PCB is actually improved on the one that is shown in that post. 🙂
That preamp is in my opinion superior to the FreeBird, and does not have any passive components in the signal path..

Those PCBs are already ordered from the manufacturer, and you can contact Brian Donegan to get one in about 2 weeks or so after they arrive.
The FreeBird is very very good, and deserves a run, but I can simply fund only so many PCBs at a time.
Cheers!
Russ
Nordic,
Forgot to say that the Kookaburra is stereo, and pretty small at 4.1" x 2.1"
I hope that will fit for you.

No way I could take power from the traffo used for the amp hey?
I mean as a step... towards upgrading later on...

I would not say no way, in fact it would be rather easy. 🙂
You could actually do it a couple ways, but here is the simplest:
First step is very important!!! 🙂
1) Omit the output shorting relay on the Kookaburra as it is 12V (and would thus not last long at 32V) and you actually not need it in this case since it is integrated with the MyRef.
2) Simply connect the Kookaburra to the trafo. As long as the trafo is not too high voltage. If it looks like you will have more than 31-32DCV rectified use the "HV"(high voltage) type for the LM7812.
Done. 🙂

33.5V DC under no load (nothing connected)...
Lets hope I can wait 2 weeks... might try my hand at some basic preamp designs in the meantime... just can't find one plan that seems to have all the info on hand (at least at noob level).
I have a realy from a monitor that says 5a 30vdc / 5a 250vac... could I substitute it for the 12V jobbie?

Well, not directly, you could make it work... but you should not. That relay should be omitted if you are going to directly integrate the pre with the power amp, which you would be if you are sharing the trafo.
Trafo for pre
So, would people be interested in having a trafo for the pre included in the kit? Could also offer it on the side. Guessing at price, but probably around $10-$15. Could also power the source selector (coming soon) from the same trafo.
Thoughts?

Ooohh, a source selector!

Sounds interesting.

Re: Trafo for pre
1. What's the shipping weight? Thinking about postage costs...
2. Input voltage for us foreigners with higher voltages?
Russ:
Would powering the Kooka from the Mauro's transformer have any impact on the sound?

Re: Re: Trafo for pre
Not really, that trafo is so big, and the current draw from the kooka so small it should not really matter, plus the PS on the kooka has two VREGS which further smooth the power. It actually should make a cool integrated pre, its funny because I never really thought of that application until today. 🙂

Russ,
It would fit quite nicely in my existing case I think, and require a front panel hole for a pot... If I do that, I'll probably add a power switch too, making it just like a bought one 🙂

Russ-
Any chance at getting a peek @ the input selector coming?
As I mentioned in the Mauro thread, I did a 3 relay input and pot combo that would prolly be better of being replaced by these.
I am looking for brd sizes and requirments to see if they could be put in my case. Picture to be posted tonight.

Now, that's a good idea! 😉
source selector
Brian is working on a layout for that bad boy, so I will let him do the revealing. 🙂
I already have one, but I promised to let him do his first so I would not poison his thinking. 🙂 I will be testing mine tonight.
We have both been working closely on the design though, and it will be pretty cool.
Cheers

O.K, now you are really teasing us!

Source selector for those who were asking
Ok posted a new thread for the source selector. It is nearing completion. 🙂

Which PCB?
Kookaburra PCBs wil be available very soon.
I also have a couple of complete YardBirds and a FreeBird I would be willing to sell minus the OPA627s and BUF634s. Contact me off the list if you want them.
