Cluster of halogn bulbs

What would be the dissadvantages of making a close together array of small bright halogen bulbs in a 3*3 formation? obviously bulbs like PHILLIPS GE 150 watts are cheap and don't require ballasts as they run on mains power, and run relatively cool too. If they had reflectors built in (like shop display bulbs), the cluster would still be fairly directional... wouldn't it?

Anything else I should know?

Hi,

Thanks for your replies... One of the advantages for me is set up cost, as for halogen's I could do the mod for literally $60 USD. In the UK, MH kit like balasts etc costs more, is scarce, and besides which, I'll probably get bored of it in a few months anyway.

So if I took the Halogen route, is the light produced good enough in quality? And how much cooling should I allow? Finally, the bulb life is quoted as being 2500 hours, can I expect that to be correct realistically?

Many Thanks,

Ben

Light Spectrum

Slightly off topic....

...But is the the visible light spectrum given off by whatever type of bulb we use really that important, given the fact that we can adjust RGB color levels on our screens....espescially to adjust any color defficiencies our bulb might have?

thanks.
