Would you really need a resistor anyway? I was looking though my stash and I still have a few 300uF caps from my last buy
Stupid question with a little thinking.
DUH!
Above 2400Hz it would be a short circuit to the amplifier.
So is there such a thing as a "Strange First order" crossover?
Part Zobel but also rounding out the sound to avoid harsh breakup and too much treble?
I get a kick out of low cost/zero cost projects like these.
I even cut the hole without using any tools except a scrap of wood and two nails, although I did sharpen one nail so it would cut. The box terminals I rescued from a cheap parts bin when Tandy/RadioShack closed the doors here in Oz, I probably paid a dollar. Foam was an old camping mattress destined for the tip as was the scraps of fibreglass in the old pillowcase

If your amp is a pure voltage source, all that will happen is that it's outputting more current (due to low impedance) at high frequencies.
A series inductor would roll off the high frequencies by showing high impedance at high frequencies.
However, at frequencies this low, I'd recommend using a spare amplifier and a line-level crossover.

E-XO is what I normally do, but this is for Doof-Doof at parties and I thought that perhaps rolling the top end off might help a bit/ be a little better. Although I have not done it before I'm remembering something like this being talked about when I made my daughter her bass quad box for her guitar. It used 2* 15's and a pair of 12's and was a little bright. But they were not "proper" bass guitar drivers, just old woofers I had in the shed at the time
I know it's been a while but yesterday I finally got around to hooking this roadkill project up to an amp.
Party set-up is now via an older Rotel multi channel amp with only 40 watts per channel but that is enough to provide a decent basement for the tops I've been using for ages.
Good enough for party use and I have to say that these blue plastic barrels actually make reasonable enclosures; I think the foam roll has helped there but I don't have any complaints about SQ even if it were inside the house.
WAF would be extremely low.
I haven't made a frame for them, I just set up the barrel facing up in the open air. I have another sub also used for parties. The old Kicker EX154 I made about 12 years ago is still going strong.

Love my Kicker 08S15L74! I've had it 12 years too. It spent 3 years in a truck BP4 enclosure and been in my home theater in a T-TQWT enclosure since 2012.
Love your style moondog!
I saw these barrels at my local junk yard. They were used to store olives. $20 seems like a great deal and it even has some circular ribs for built in bracing. I'd estimate the opening is around 12". Can anyone recommend a sub that can make use of a 220 L box (or barrel as it were)?

I'd use any cheap 12" woofer you can find.
Make a frame from timber and stack them 3 high?
Just look for something with a Qts of about 4 or 5, an Fs of 30 or lower and a Vas less than 300litres and hope for the best.

220 liters closed box is a lot for a single 12", that is close to IB for drivers "that small". Always wanted to try IB.
If you live in europe the Beyma 12BR70 would perhaps be my first choice.
