I took a punt on a pair of these :

The c/o is a single capacitor to the tweeter. Anyone interested
in buying these and measuring them with a view to developing
a decent crossover ?
(They don't sound hideous at the moment, but could be better)

hold your horses a minute, my problem is I don't have
any measuring equipment (except my ears of course).
Using a test CD basically the midrange / lower treble
is all over the shop (presumably due to poor integration
and / or uneven midbass unit response).
The units don't look too bad, £25 for two standard 19mm
tweeters, two 4" midbass units, two nice looking boxes
and an active amplifier doesn't seem too bad to me.
(I'll improve the boxes if I can improve basic performance)
I've inserted some foam acoustic damping (there wasn't
any), and detuned the ports (foam lining) but still the
bass is a litttle strong / underdamped around 100Hz.
With measurements the c/o design shouldn't be too
difficult as the amplifer has bass (for bsd correction)
and treble (generally useless) tone controls.

Hi Rb,
What do you want for £25 !? no they are not proper twins.
The amplifier is built into the right speaker.
The amplifer is a nice little unit with a decent heatsink,
the transformer is attached to the base of the speaker.

And they're made out of 12mm MDF!These 2-way speakers from microlab feature top notch materials and high quality construction for unmatched fidelity in computer speakers. Hmmm... the possible problem is the cabinet is too small or the
basic Qts of the driver is a little too high causing the excessive
bass behaviour around 100Hz.
Either way you don't want to be reducing the internal volume
if you can help it. I'm quite happy to have slightly different
bass alignments left and right - least of the speakers problems.

Dare I say it? Might be worth considering the AP100Z0 in these cabs Rb.
I'll try and take some measurements this w/e and then we'll just see if we can make something out of this cheap buy.

Well out of the box there is no internal acoustic damping, very
thin wiring, probably misaligned reflex tuning and simply put
the nastiest (if its not suitable) c/o possible.
I'll take mine apart this weekend to investigate options further,
I'll also report on the effects of full acoustic stuffing on the bass.
Any complex eq required I'm planning to be at line level, so its
a question of integrating the tweeter and midbass in the box.

a version of the Audax 12mm dome/cone - should be fine. The
mid/bass unit is paper with a magnet as big as will practically
fit. The voicecoil is vented and stiffness seems to be about
right for reflex loading (i.e. Fs is not too low for reflexing).
2. The amplifier consists of two boards and the transformer.
One board cintains the two IC amps and the power supply.
The other board is an entirely passive pre-amp. It should
be very easy to modify the tone controls for BSD or similar.
There is enough room between the boards to add a
couple more smoothing capacitors to the power supply.
