Good morning 🙂
You can connect headphones to the ordinary RCA/phono output. Just plug a phono lead in to either left or right and touch the other end across two of the 3 rings on a 3.5 or 6.5mm headphone jack plug... takes seconds.
It might be louder than you think so beware 🙂

Dear Friends,http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif
As instructed by CEC, I replaced the pF45 condensers or capacitors. Now I am pleased to inform you that the CD player working flawlessly.
During the examination of the circuit board, it appears the original soldering at the defective capacitors were manual soldering instead of machine soldering.
I suspect that the CEC engineers may have replaced these capacitors during final testing before passing the product. Or I may suspect the CD player is a refurbished one.
Other observation is the replaced two capacitors are identical to the new ones on terms of values and voltage (pF45, 50V).
Now the player works fine, but I still have doubts whether these capacitors fail again or the problem will recur after few months used.
Do you think it is a design fault. If it is the design fault, is there a way to overcome the problem? I welcome your suggestions.
Best regardshttp://www.diyaudio.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

If the caps were replaced with new ones of identical value then it does seem as if there is a known quality problem with the originals... and the new ones shouldn't fail. Small value non electroylitic caps on low voltage circuitry last "forever".
If the cap was replaced with a different value 45pf ?, I thought you mentioned 47pf earlier, then that's a mod to correct a design issue. 45pf isn't a "prefered" value though.
I wouldn't worry to much... it's obviously a known issue with a known fix.

Dear Mooly,
Greetings,
I am sorry the capacitors were pF47 not pF45. Does this mean original capacitors had quality issues. Thank you for your prompt support right through out. Also, I have to thank all other DIYAudio friends who gave me various suggestions. This is an excellent forum not only for DIYers but also for Audiophile enthusiasts. Also, I should mention the excellent service rendered to CEC customer (who do not have an authorized service center) by CEC engineers in Japan. They have informed me that they would support me in the future should I encounter any service problems. They are much better than the Panasonic guys.

It does seem there was a quality issue with that individual part, particularly as same on both channels. Impossible to say just what the problem was though. Maybe they were incorrectly marked (wrong value) or some problem causing them to absorb moisture over time... just can't say.
Nice to hear of good support from CEC... so many companies don't want to know unless you are an authorised dealer.

Dear Mooly,
Thanks for your response. Before CEC responded to my query they wanted my player's serial number, when I gave them the serial number they responded very positively. First of all CEC wanted to check the authenticity of the player as well *** the customer.
I totally agree, most of the manufacturer's never wanted to help outside the authorized distributors. With my past experience, B&W, Kenwood, Parasound, has responded positively to remote customers who have bought these items which do not authorized distributors in the country. Xindak parent company in China responded to service problem (on my monos MNE8800)with great difficulty. You must contact the right person in the company, most of the front desk guys in many companies are morons and they just respond no to your query. If you know the right contact person who is influential, you can get many things done.
I am sharing this experience with other Diyers because one should not stop just because some fool in a company's front desk responds negatively. Keep on trying, when we buy reputed products or brands assuming the such branded companies give the superior and reliable service.
You will not believe, I have managed to get replacement laser free for my old Knewood cd player DDP990D when I contacted the parent office.
B&W replaced free (couriered in 3-days via DHL) of charge one of my woofers on DM603S2 bookshelve speakers. Email communication and support given by B&W learned that it was factory defect.
Xindak sent me the schematics and troubleshooting guidelines to rectify my mono blocks. I called the Chairman of Xindak, although I do not have authorized service center, they responded positively. When you deal with Chinese guys, the language is an issue, fortunately the Xindak Chairman's secretary was able converse in English. I found the Chinese companies are very much regimental, if you talk to the Chairman, all others follow very fast. Fortunately, the mono block was repaired ( the power protection circuit)
I advise Diyer's not to get discouraged just you got a negative response from the manufacturing company, try the next level if you can get hold of the next level.
I thank you my fellow DIYers for continued support on rectifying the CEC cd player.

Thanks for sharing all that... yes I agree that if your complaint is valid and you go about things the correct way it's surprising what can be achieved. I have had considerable success myself over the years 🙂
Enjoy your CD's...

Hi Mooly,
Greetings!
I have to inform you that the CEC TL53Z developed the crackling noise again. According to CEC Japan, instructions, I changed the 2 No 47pF condensers on the DAC.
If this recurring, is it due to bad design or is it necessary to replace these condensers with higher tolerance capacitors (with same values). Now I feel very dissappointed selecting this CEC Cd Player.

It all seems very strange... the circuit design shouldn't have to depend on the tolerance on the 47pf caps. Earlier you mentioned these caps appearing to have been hand soldered, which means whatever the reasons, the manufacturer has some issue around that part of the circuit.
I would certainly contact them again...
It might be worth trying replacing both with a 39pf and seeing what happens and also trying a 56 pf. See if it works with either. If it doesn't the design would appear very critical... which to be honest is not good design practice. Try that anyway and perhaps if using 39pf add another cap in parallel across it to slowly bring the value up. Values such as 3.3pf, 5.6pf, 6.8pf and so on. If it's critical to within 1 or 2 pf then I'm afraid it's bad design.
See what the manufacturer says first though. Maybe a supply voltage drifts slightly... there could be other reasons for this, but it's obvious the manufacturer knows there is a problem.

Dear Mooly,
Sorry for not responding to your message. The behavior of the player was very strange.
On my friends advise I kept the player on for 5-6 hrs and later played several cds, the scratchy noise disappeared. So the player worked perfectly until yesterday through digital out (via external DAC) and analogue out (balance & unbalance).
Unfortunately, when playing a good quality CD yesterday through analog out, the right channel went dead. However, the through external dac both the channels were working. Now this player virtually working as a transporter.
The CEC guys says the electronics should be ok after the capacitor replacement and they wanted more details of the player's behavior. I have sent all the details of the recent behavior of the player. I am expecting a reply from them soon.
My friend, what is your opinion regarding this behavior of the player. Should I discard the player? or can we rectify the problem.
Cheers
Mohan

I don't really know what to advise... from all the problems and the response of the company it seems they are aware of issues.
As you appreciate it's impossible to give any more than general advice but if you bought this player new then you have a right to a satisfactory outcome.
Having performed the recommended repair and it still having problems I would have expected the company to offer more assistance ideally by taking the player back for examination.

Dear Mooly,
Good Morning!
At last CEC agreed to replace the right amplifier module (free of charge) which they suspect defective. I hope the player could be fully operational once the right amplifier module is replaced.
I will send you an update once I get the module and replaced.
Cheers

Hi Mooly
Thanks for your reply, I hope I could get the player back in operation.
This player's music reproduction is excellent, its more natural and close to analogue.
I will give you an update later once the items come here.
Best regards
Mohan
