Hi Lars
Sorry, not quite sure what you meant. You meant need remote with another colour? But haven't another colour, only black..sorry..
Huang

I ment that I am satisfied with what I got. Will stuff the display inside the chassi to get rid of it. The only thing on the front will be the remote receiver behind dark plexi.

Anyone knows a CD-ROM with a really good DAC-chip inside? Preferably a Philips chip.

Hi Lennert
I am not sure the OVK CDROM has digital out or not.And the CDROM is very heavy, shipping will cost must.It does't worth.

Hi Lars
Thanks for your feeling.Any question please contact me again.

Having tried it with two std drives that works great, it is time for a challenge!

Will try it with a slim(notebook-style) CD/DVD-ROM, 12mm thick! To adopt it you also need a JAE 50-pin to IDE adapter for few bucks.

There is no digital out so in this setup the built in DAC will have to do. The rest will be housed in a box below.

Anyone else who have tried a slim?

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Hi Slowgay,

I could be interrested in the kit, but have some questions about it.

1. What RC-code is used by the remote?

2. Is it possible to attach EVERY cd-rom drive or do I have to look for 1 or 2 particular models?

3. What messages are displayed on the display?

Best regards,
Mischa

Hey,

A few questions about the kit:
1. What CD-rom drives are compitable with the controller?
2. Which RC code does the remote control use?
3. Is the price including the VFD display?
4. Is the PCB black, green or white?
5. How many kits do you have on stock?

Thanks!!

The cdrom controller will work well with many cdrom drivers but not the all.
Display will show you the time and the track when you playing.I can give you some pictures~

Using a slimline drive would be great, as it's much easier to get a slot-in version. I haven't tried this yet, as my cdrom controller is on its way.. 🙂 I do have a laptop cdrom-drive and a convertor to standard IDE ready, so I will try when it arrives.

Do you think it is possible to tap I2S out of a slimline drive? There must be a DAC in there?

Checked a scrapped slim that I have. There is no provision for digital audio as all is integrated in one fat Philips chip😡 !

Will tear the the Samsung to pieces to see if it is the same.......

Whatever, I don´t think the slim drives are that good anyway. Just want build a minimalistic CD for my wife.

@slowgay:

Is it possible to tell us what display is used? Maybe you can tell somethin about how to control the display? It might be something nice te have in my preamp.

Would it be possible to order an extra display?

Best regards,
Mischa

Hi Mischa
The VFD is Made by Itron in Japan.Model is CU16025CPB.You can control the VFD 3level with the remote, you can turn it off too.
The controller can order 1602LCD,and I have the LCD Version too.But on the same time you can just connect one display~

Huang

Does the control pcb (with the processor, the buttons and the IR-receiver) only control the drive, or does it also control the display? Or is the display controlling the rest?

The reason for asking this is because I´m investigating if it is possible to use this display in combination with a PGA2310.

Mischa

Hi Mischa
Not quite sure what you meant by "PCB control the display"
The control PBC just help the display drive to display, but the controller can't work without a display drive. You can have to try with a economic display 1602LCD,if the 1602LCD can work, the VFD will work too
Wish my answer helpful to you.

Thanks,
Huang

Hi Huang,

This is what I meant:

Th kit consist of several pcb´s:
PCB1: the pcb on the back of the display
PCB2: the pcb consisting of following parts: IR receiver, Button board, CD-rom controller.

Does PCB2 only control the cdrom drive?

Is the display HD44780-based ?

Mischa
