Came upon this thread and saw it was revived recently. I currently have a pair of Altec 604-8k’s in 7cu ft cabinets with original crossovers. I was thinking of adding a pair of JBL 2245h subs to dig a bit lower. Looks like the Altecs go to 60hz and the 245h can go to 20ish? I’m fairly new to the hobby and don’t know a lot about the technical stuff yet… still learning. I know that JBl has a BX63A crossover that could possibly do the trick and am aware of the digital crossovers, but have no experience with them. Also, don’t know much about connections, so would need a bit of help there if anyone would be so kind should I pursue this route. I guess the first step is, has anyone tried this pairing? Worth trying to attain something like this?

Mated 2245s to various speakers including Altec, though not with a BX63A; and yes, in a Vas/1.44 box tuned to Fs connected to a high SQ 300-500 W amp it will go louder at high SQ than most folks can/will tolerate all the way down to ~18 Hz, especially if there's one/channel where they will normally loaf along and allow 16 Hz tuning for the few CDs and many movies that go this low.
