you just gave away my site wiko 🙁 it better not be sold out when i buy one lol they're all refurbished...if anyone cares...

i recieved that tv card u told me about and im very disapointed in it ! 😡 u SURE we have the same thing ! i cant even get sound with this crap! thanx ALOT for the advice wiko:att'n:

Pretty sure... All the lower-end hauppauge cards are the same thing except with slightly different features anyways. The drivers have increased amazingly, if your using the included ones go to the Hauppauge site and get the latest ones. You have to run the included cable from the Line Out on the card to the Line In on your sound card. Make sure you don't have Line-In muted(by default it usually is), and that it is indeed plugged into line-in not mic in. It should work fine. And If you don't like it don't bitch to me, what do you expect from a $40 TV card...

At www.justdeals.com you can get the logitech z640's for $35. They don't come close in power or quality to the THX certified sets, but I'm thinking about picking up a set, I don't think I can pass up that price. You can also get the THX certified 560's for $120, wich is an excellent price for them.

Wow the Logitech Z-680s they got are very cheap, only $225 even though its refurbished. I think I am going to get one of those or the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 THX. Which one would you think would be better?

If you have a gigantic video projection in your house, and you are watching great films such as Star Wars and movies with a lot of special effects that are THX and DTS encoded, one can not, CAN NOT, rely on simple computer speakers to do the job. Not even the Klipsh systems can handle it. My motto is "go big or go home." If you're watching a movie on a 70"+ screen, it will be worthless if you can't hear it from a decent set of speakers. I have a 6.1 surround system that is DTS-ES capable in my house that I worked very hard and long to get. It was worth every cent. Don't go cheap for a nice sound system for your huge in-house movie theater. 🙂

You dont know what you are talking about. The klipsch and the
logitech are both thx certified(that's lucasfilm certified) and
remember we are in a forum dedicated to building DIY projectors,
which I assume, is because of expense. Thats why I started.
Seriously, audition a couple of them. You'll be surprised.

i agree to some extent... nice motto BTW (i hear it alot in the gym lol) your motto to me means Go big AND go broke i plan to do neither so therefore im gettin me a cheapie system😎

but i do understand what you mean though but at this point in my life im too broke and cheap to buy an expensive DTS es XX OEs or whatever u said lol.and besides i live with my parents still and im pretty sure they would mind the noise. But when i do get a house/apartment i will definitley get a great system😎

Bigshooter...I suggest you know what you are talking about before saying it... I hear Negative Design's motto is "Size doesn't matter," bahaha...jk...but he's right. My z-680s EASILY shake the entire house (3,000 square feet, downstairs only, upstairs isn't done), and my speakers are located towards the end of the house, in my room. I had the sub at about 80 percent, volume at 70, and everything in the house was shaking to some rap song my sister was listening to.

Not to mention they also have dts, pro logic 2, and all that jazz aswell.

sir vival

i'm sure your config does what you say

i can make my neigbhours coming out from their house wondering if it's the war in their garden

don't forget one thing :the power is one thing, the quality another
if you see what i mean
i've build my audio system in 2 years , looking for old amps at my friends home or speakers with destroyed woofers and medium and repaired them
it' s long to have what you want but when it works tie-fighters are in your home

good luck

bye

Lets not get too critical here

I've heard the klipsch computer surround kits. They are ok. Not great, but ok. The sub sounds like all computer subs I've heard... weazy. As for shaking the house with a set of computer sattelites... look here

http://www.passdiy.com/projects/el-pipe-o-1.htm

Now tell me again about how a set of computer satelites shake the house. (BTW, I believe that Nelson Pass DOES know what he is talking about)

Anyway, I however am in the opposite boat. I am about to finish a set of 5.5' tall electrostatics with transmission line woofers that will probably end up serving double duty as both stereo speakers (for music) and improv movie speakers. Problem is that my TV is only around 24 inches. Oh well, at least that tiny airplane on the screen will be able to be heard from across the street.

I have two 15" speakers, two 10", and two 8" hooked up right now. It's hooked up to an old 70's radio/amp. It doesn't have any bells and whistles(surround) but it's powerful, weighs as much as a car, and it has great sound quality. The stereo is 240watts RMS. The 15" are the best speakers I have. I got them from a yard sale for $40. One of them had bad(dead) tweeters, but I just ripped some out from another speaker set. I've tried out the Logitech THX certified sets. They don't even come close, believe me. Small speakers just don't cut it for home theater. Big speakers don't have to bust your wallet. Look at yard sales, flea markets, and auctions. There's allways an abundance of them, and people usually don't want much for them, they just want to get rid of them. Big speakers don't need as much wattage as small ones(although they can usually handle much more), because they are much more efficient. My two 15" speakers have a listenable volume at less than 1 watt of power consumption.

I think smaller speaker sets are great for PC usage, or even to hook up to a TV. But I really do agree that for Home Theater you need big *** speakers :devilr: .

Well...

It also depends on how big the person's theatre is. For example, mine is quite small less than 16x16. But currently, I am using some cheap *** $5 speakers. I might be planning to get one of those bose's 10- piece acoustics speakers set.

If person B can derive as much enjoyment out of his $5 speakers than person A does out of her $5000 speakers.. I'd rather be person B 😉

To each his own.

Well...

I had a pretty good deal on them $5 speakers. I think its around 100 watts power and it consists of a subwoofer and 5 speakers. Its one of them old Creative 5.1 speaker set (the old version), the 5200 or 5300.

Let me clairfy my last post a page back. I enjoy a good set of computer speakers as much as the next guy. They do an excellent job of re-creating crystal clear high notes that makes vocals sound incredible. However, if you follow WRL's link, you will find (if you didn't already know) is that the human hearing ranges down to around 20 Hz. Now if you go to www.justdeals.com and find the set of z640's (which is an unbelievable deal for those!) you will find that the subwoofer can only reach a measiling 35Hz. And when that sub does reach 35 or recieve signals of 35 or below, its going to sound like it's gurggling underwater. The z640 system is a great buy for anyone who wants to add some kick to their day to day computer life. My friend has that set and it is terrific. It is very versitle, and can be hooked up to anything with simple RCA jacks. However, for an audiophyle like myself, it just wont slice the bread for a decent home theater system. I agree with Ehuwiko when he says you need big *** speakers for your home theater. Those of you who are opposed to this, I am not arguing, but I urge you to just experience Jurrasic Park so loud, that you actually feel like you are gettting ate by the T-rex because you can feel it in your chest. Lets see the Z640's give you that sensation 😉

experiencing getting mangled by a dinosaur is not a dream of mine.....if i were to listen to your sound system i think i would $H|t in my pants lol ...but i dont know if thats good thing😕 :devily:

"yuo can feel it in your chest" do you think you will be able to use you system when ur 80? if you feel something in your chest its probably a heart attack lol

LOL! i never thought of a hometheater system inducing a heart attack!! lol. I know when I run test signals through mine, when i run the 25Hz signal you can feel a breeze coming at you from both sides of the room from the two 12" subs! I had bought the original Cambridge Soundworks Desktop Theater 5.1 Dolby system when it came out and I thought that was so cool until when I finally finished building my new theater system this spring. But if you dont have a system to compare it to, desktop theater sytems do sound incredibly better then standard PC stereo speakers!

Myself, and my friends think that it is so cool that I have a completely homemade speaker system and video projector now!! haha, DIY is great!

haha lol that's a good point ND, but I'm not expecting to live past 50. Even if I do, I doubt that I'll have much for hearing left! Oh well though. But yeah, when you pop in Saving Private Ryan on this baby and crank that volume to around 70, haha, you are dodging bullets yourself and yes you are crapping your pants. 🙂

Oh, I have this thing about Jurassic Park.. On my dad's home theatre system.. (totally decked out components), I was watching it with a couple friends.. and no-one was home so we were REALLY blasting it.. it was insane. and once when the T-Rex did its roar thing.. the circuit breaker got tripped and the whole house power went down :|. I'm not sure if it's coincidence or not.. but it was just crazy 🙂
