I like a PA driver(mid woofer) whose parameters and price meet my specifications. I want to use it for home hi-fi use but there is one factor which I am not so familar with.

Those which expertise in the construction of woofer please comment.

The spec. for the driver which is made my P-Audio, it says:

Materials of construction
-------------------------------

APS ferrite. Pressed steel chassis, Paper cone, Plasticised cloth(linen) cone edge. Solid composition paper dust cap, 2" round copper wire voice coil, Kapton former.

The spec. is pretty std even with driver for HIFI use except for linen cone edge. Does this affect the sound/performance of the driver in anyway?

Any comments anyone?

It probably means surround. Cloth surrounds are common and they usually have some form of doping to make them airtight.

Cloth accordion pleated suspension surrounds were actually pretty common at one time. Though they were most often found in Acoustic Suspension or speakers meant for sealed cabinets.

I think speakers have all switched to molded foam suspension surround because they are easy to make, cheap to buy, and do a good job. But that's nothing against the cloth surrounds.

I don't think it is any thing to be concerned about if the other specs fit your needs.
