Why is there nothing moving? 😕 Nothing is fixed in relation to the earth. The plane will move forward. If you look through the window, you will see things moving faster and faster. Then everything will start to drop away as the plane takes off.When I am sitting in the plane, I will see through the window that nothing is moving. The plane remains at the same position. If the belt flies, then the plane could fly on it.

ha, every forum is the same with this question, its a nightmare. The problem is in the semantics of the question, not the science.

You are on the running machine and running at the exactly same speed at any given time with the rotating belt speed in opposite direction. (Net speed is zero between you and the belt). When could you catch your girl friend standing 1m away in front of your reach and teasing you? Probably, she would just laugh at you sweating like hell.

Now that's easy!! To put it in the same frame as the original question, the running machine is on wheels free to move. I have someone pushing me from behind (thrust from engines, jet variety).
No matter what my feet do, my friend pushes me to her. Not being silly, I will stand there conserving my energy for the future. Now she is in trouble for teasing me and not understanding the laws of physics. 😉
