Hi,
Yes, good thinking.
Also, as we're reaching the busiest month for the postal services I'd suggest to wait a while prior to shipping the wires unless SY feels very comfortable with UPS.
As a former audio business I never had any problems but just to be on the safe side...
Cheers,😉
If none of the others involved have any objections, I see no reason not to adopt them.

I'm comfortable with UPS (the tracking system is first-rate), but depending on timing, might even be able to hand-carry them; this is my busy travel season.
Say, if you can get up to Amsterdam this weekend, I'll be around. No car, so I can't come south.

Hi,
Just declined an audio show in Utrecht (Holland) for this weekend as I'm down with the flu...
Next time you go further down South, be my guest. You know that already...
UPS is best of class for sure...I was just a little worried about the end of season hectic activities.
We don't want to lose Steve's precious vamps.
Cheers,😉

I'm Ready..........
RHosch, thanks for your intelligent suggestions and summation.
I am fully in agreeement with the method that you outline, and I fully agree that we should be looking for ONE variable only in order to aquire more accurately meaningful test results.
Steve I say go with this.
I will set up some kind of quick connects for the experiments so no need to send RCA plugs - indeed these add an extra variable.
Eric.

Just a quick update. The wire didn't arrive today. If it doesn't arrive tomorrow, I'll give Michael a call and see what's up with my order.

Hi,
Take your time, Steve. next month is going to be pretty hectic for anything postal anyways.
Errr, am I reading this right?
Cheers,😉

Yeah, somebody needs to tell him to extract the digit.

Cheers,😉
OUT OF WHAT?
Hi,
Did figure that much. LOL.🙂
No further comment then....
Cheers and hey..., I'll will give you a long overdue ring when we receive the vamps.😉
Hi,
'To extract the digit' is Aussie for 'to pull one's finger out'.

No more than me. The order still hasn't arrived yet. EMailed Michael yesterday but haven't heard back yet.

Hi,
Oh dear....Let's hope it doesn't smell funny.😉

Probably just means the guy is honest and serious. He could
have used some fancy-looking spools he buys for 10 cents and
then cahrge you $10 extra for them. 🙂

Just imagine all the s##t he went through to get that tube, though..

Hehehe.
Just finished braiding up a 1 meter length just to noodle around with (I'll probably split in in half and make some interconnects). Took about an hour or so. Wasn't so much the braiding as stopping every few braids to untangle the remainders.
Here's the first portrait.

Whoa, Before You Go Too Far..........
Do they have to be braided ? - ie this may in fact cloud the experiment due to extra uncontrolled variables.
Perhaps a simple twisted pair would be a more correctly repeatable experimental cable, and this would help to avoid potential minor damages to the strands due to tangles and excess handling which would be adding extra uncontrolled variables - discontinuities, kinks, work hardening etc.
I say let's go on simple twisted pair for starters - ie make one very long twisted pair and cut it into lengths marked appropriately, and then move on to more complex forms.
Eric.

Re: Whoa, Before You Go Too Far..........
Well, when I said originally that I planned to use the braid, you had concerns about consistency of the braid. The braid even when done by hand is naturally more consistent and the pitch is more determined by the diameter of the wire than twisting is.
Because it's critical that the listeners not be able to determine direction by way of any visual clues, I'd personally feel more comfortable with the braid.
Otherwise I'd have to work up some sort of contraption to do the twisting that would assure consistency of the twisting that matched that of the braid done by hand.
