No, I heard the difference with Jack's product, before I ever met him.
So what about the crystal technology... This has come out since you've known him.
These lyrics come to mind:
One likes to believe in the freedom of music
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah
No, I heard the difference with Jack's product, before I ever met him.
And you promote it because of all of the controlled/blind testing you've done.... or are you going to suggest that you don't succumb to bias?
Phi is generally used for the irrational number 1.618033988749895, also used in the Golden ratio....

When I first tested the Bybee AC modules, I should have been biased AGAINST hearing any difference. I first measured them with the equipment I had available and could not find any reason they should work. They just happened to work in the test I ran.

"phi' is no different than "pi" just another source. The ratio of the line lengths of a pentagram (1+sqrt(5))/2 a simple geometric construct not that much removed from a circle (maybe a little more sinister). 😉

It's not conscious bias that you are dealing with. If it was, you could make anything sound perfect by just thinking that it sounds perfect.
Bias is unconscious, which is why when doing psychological testing, people take measures to ensure that unconscious bias does not void their results. In psycho-acoustics ( what audiophiles don't think matters ) that means blind and level matched.
Were your tests of that nature or did you just plug it in a check it out?
I always just plug it in and check it out. That is how I find what it sounds like. However, I use the best sources (analog) with material that I know well, and use the most direct coupled approach to electrostatic headphones that I can afford. Only then can I hear subtle differences relatively clearly, rising above guessing.

So no confirmation by blind testing...
Also you said you measured them and couldn't find any reason why they worked....
Well, that was when I made an effort to talk to Jack Bybee and asked him how they worked. He gave me some measurements both showing both WHY I could not measure anything useful, (or anybody else doing similar tests), and an ACTUAL measurement with a specific measuring instrument that I do not possess, but the results of the measurement show a difference in noise on a power line. It is not a whole lot of difference, BUT it is a measurable, and most likely, repeatable measurement, using what Jack Bybee used to make these measurements.
The fact that I HEARD the difference, working alone, not even knowing Jack Bybee, in my own facility with my listening equipment, still gives me the knowledge that these devices are not what many here conjecture, and they can change audio quality for the better, in many cases, although they sometimes make it worse (where did that come from?) in some listening situations with some audio equipment.

Magic measuring machines that us common people cant access?
What was he measuring, how was he measuring it, a bit more factual information instead of trying to ne mystical, this is engineering after all...
The more I look around at some of the stuff being peddled to Audiophiles the more disgusted I am becoming with a large factor of the high end esoteric audio companies, a lot are trading in lies and untruths.
Yes, I am sap #1. However, I am usually very successful with my 'sonic opinions'.
No you are a well respected audio designer who happens to support some of the more esoteric areas of this hobby, something that I understand but don't condone, hence my little digs🙂
I'd actually say: a respected audio designer that either does not understand bias and the science of testing or does not care....the sort of audiophile that gives this hobby a bad name.
Marce, I think this is the info that you want:
Ahh, the infamous and repeatedly debunked drawn ovals! I'll give you points for remarkable shamelessness.
The measurement was made with the machine shown. It could be rented, or purchased used, IF you wanted to discredit the measurement. Looks real to me!
