Burning Amp 2024!

Another noob question: I would love to learn more about measuring noise and distortions, and also comparing measurements to the listening experience. I have an Analog Discovery 2 USB scope with audio adapter, and a Focusrite Scarlett Solo that I use with REW software. I assume people at Burning Amp have experience with this kind of stuff, but would hooking something like that up to amplifiers fit into the program, or not so much?

Volunteers, here's a sign-up sheet so we know who's doing what ahead of time. It is not mandatory to sign-up; you are welcome to help out even if you didn't sign up 🙂
Thanks for all the sign-ups! We have an amazing community.

A bit more info on the NC-434....aka "The Cube" and speaker camp.

1. All materials to have a working set of speakers will be provided, glue, wire, crimp connections/etc...
2. The enclosure is a V-fold style assembly, so the 4 sides are taped, glue applied and then folded up. Front/back provide plenty of support once the glue dries so there's no need for screws/lock miters any of that jazz.
3. Should be no need for power tools, I've pre-drilled all pilot holes, milled all openings, drilled holes for binding posts etc. This should be glue, wire, assemble.
4. I'll be helping out with the entire speaker camp...so for those folks putting these speakers together you can consider it quite a few hours of my undivided attention to answer questions about the speakers, other speakers, loudspeaker design or other such things. That is, unless I get hungry and distracted, run short of caffeine and distracted or just otherwise distracted.

I'll do my best, but if there's a fluffy kitty cat, no promises. Or Brunello. Either one.

I like this ide a lot, and would like to see the crossover, which are not in the paper on the BAF site… care to share here?
Thanks; Jesper

If you recall, last year I brought this. It provided the source to test the amps.

A portable DAC, USB-OTG cable and the RCA cable. It's my portable listening space, with the IEM ( not pictured ) and it does 24/96.

My phone has a 512 GB card and Tidal HiFi installed... remember when I was playing Zappa?

Sure, it requires an Android phone, I got no clue how the Apple people do it.

BTW, bye bye High End Samsung phones for me... no audio jack and no support for a user micro SD card.

Crossover is super simple....10 Ohm and 1uF in series with the tweeter. 330uF to lower the F3/flatten the Q of the woofer, providing a bit of extension. That's it. Frequency response could be made flatter with more parts..but you'd have a tough time fitting them in the box.

If there's sufficient interest I could potentially either give a talk on that topic or lead a workshop ... or both. Next year, though.

I expect it might not be terribly urgent to nail down the exact timelots and the exact titles of the presentations, until maybe Thursday or Friday before the Festival.

How does anyone's behavior actually change, once they learn (a) who is talking; and (b) what are the topics; and (c) when do the presentations begin and end?

Probably the only result is to answer the questions "when do I want to grab a chair?" , "do I want to listen to the talk right before lunch, or can I get a head start on the food?" , and most important of all "when is The Speaker Of Greatest Importance going to be talking?" Or for those watching remotely, "when do I watch and when do I not?"

Doris Day was right: what will be, will be.

Sunday speaking schedule -

Before lunch speakers have :30 min slots, the order is Tiemann, Christiansen, Johnson.

There is a 90min gap for lunch, listening, and general chatting/kibitzing/friendship.

After lunch speakers have :55min slots, Hinson, Pass.

Auction follows after Nelson.

The actual schedule should be updated in the near future.

Will there be a swap meet during this event?
I'm curious about this as well. I have a number of speaker units that I'm trying to offload to good homes. I just don't want to deal with shipping etc. I would literally give the drivers away at the end of the day to a good home so to speak. I checked the web site but didn't see any mention of this. I'm not commercial, not looking to make money. Just trying to clean out my garage. Got tired of sending out one pair of speakers at a time-shipping is murder these days.

It gives people something to look forward to. Some people like to plan more than others.

I plan to talk about the ins, outs, and pitfalls of discrete opamps. Which means that I should probably get a presentation of sorts together... 🙂

There's not typically a swap meet but a give a way pile and a raffle pile and some fancier auction items.
ucla88 where are you? maybe someone could grab whatever you'd like to give away if you don't wish to attend. I did this for a guy local to me who had a bunch of stuff a couple years ago.
