Building first speaker using DEQX

Wow Jiri, that price sounds fabulous, delivered AND someone has done all the work for you?? Hmmmm, I might reconsider building my own!!

My bass units are the 18" 7030, and the mid is the 6.5" 1660 (with the Cabasse dom 40 tweeter).

To be honest I still can't believe what a great price those little babies of yours are, do you have any idea on what the price of the ribbon itself is?? looked up his website earlier as a result of me thinking about your project, and they weren't immediately obvious, and no local distributor. Shinobiwan certainly seems to like them, but I suppose next year he will have moved on to a new 'wonder of the audio world'.

I must say I was a bit suprised that they are only 6.5" bass drivers you will be using, but then had a brainwave and had a look at your system pics over here, and yes, with the sub complement you have you don't really need more do you ha ha.

Will re-read your thread over here to acquaint myself with it, but am already 'exceedingly envious'!

No doubt you will post update pics and I await those with relish.

Alexander sounds like he is easy to deal with, I assume he only really manufactures ribbons and in a case such as yours he outsources the remainder? It's easy to see how you both settled on a Raal ribbon, but what led to the choice of the PHL's?, was it something you had already decided upon or did you decide between the two of you? Did he have any ideas of his own what he would have liked to marry with his tweeters??

Sounds like it is worth you starting a thread on the whole process, would be good for alexander as well to have that type of 'promotion' of his services.

Corr, $1300 delivered...little thought experiment here, what would you get for that sort of money if you went down to the local hi-fi shop in Australia HA, and how would they compare!!??!!

Or turn the question on it's head, how much would you have to pay at the local hi-fi shop to get the equivalent sound (and what would that product be?).

Make sure you update your pictures

Hi terry j

I would like to clarify few things. The drivers can be purchase at Solen Canada but you could provably ask Alex if he can supply you some. The drivers are around $460CA at Solen.
I do also have to mention that AU $ 1300 is for the drivers only with delivery. There is also approximately AU$1000 for the final drawings and I do believe it is worth that money. I did purchase the PHL in USA 4 off $ AU$ 850 delivered.
There will be so expenses on the material for example for my self 2 sheets of 909Subdue ply is around AU $550, 2 sheets of 27 hardwood ply around AU$ 320.Now all that ply has to be cut with CNC so I assume that is going to cost some money also will need some money for assembly unless I finish my house and try to do it myself.
Regarding the PHL’s I was going to use Accuton but it was Alex who suggested PHL as he knows them all and he did mention paper cone drivers are better sounding drivers. He didn’t mind to do the design with accuton paired with Raal tweeter but again he sad that the PHL would sound better.

How do you find your PHL's comapre with other speaker??
