Yes, indeed it is. Myself and few buddies...
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts, but don't want to go to OT in this thread....

I don't see anything bad in a non diy community, external opinion. Is he coming from a magazine background? You must explain to him that he will need a compatible gain structure so to review properly. I.e. An amp with enough voltage gain and sensitive enough speakers. X1 line gain he must cater for. Matching levels with an SPL meter at least.
Normal build, no parts out of the ordinary. this one is the Mezmerize, not listened to yet. The 1st build was the Hypnotize, it sounds great to me and others who have heard it.No, everything is OK. Those differences are due to semis. Let us know more when you will put it to the listen. Is it normal or hot rod?
Yes Salas, all that is part of the deal. The review is only fair if its a level playing field - anything less is worse than no information at all.

Anybody have any experience with the panansonic EVJ series at digikey? I'm thinking of using the 20k pot for the DCB1. How does it compare to the alps rk27?
Revisiting transformers for a second.........I was looking around and found three good candidates. Hammond's 229D24 or their 166L24. Or, if your prefer a toroid there's Triad Magnetics VPT24-2080.
I also know a local custom shop that will probably build toroids for less than the above three.

Dan 🙂

I see nobody had probably used the evj. No answers by now. I would consider that 10$ stepped one from ebay too.
I'm just starting to get the parts together for my Hypnotize boards and I'm left wondering if I'm the first to find the transistor part of BOM4.3 confusing. I looked at the Hypnotize board in post #138 http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/pass-labs/145201-building-symmetrical-psu-b1-buffer-14.html#post1931226 and I see I need one C550, one C560, and two BC546's.
The BOM makes me think I need one BC560, two BC550, and one BC517.
What am I missing here?

Dan

Correct.
the second bc546 was subbed for a bc517 after some initial relay noise issues with the bc546.
As a toroidal supporter, I would go with the Triad Magnetics. Price difference is enought to bet for a low EMI choice and maybe better shaped to fit it easier.Revisiting transformers for a second.........I was looking around and found three good candidates. Salas, which $10 stepped one are you referring to?
This one:
DACT Type 21 Stepped Attenuator 20K FOR PASS B1 DIY - eBay (item 120502791204 end time Apr-05-10 10:17:39 PDT)
Hi Salas,
I just wondering, is it a good idea to put another buffer in front of potentiometer/step attenuator?

If your source has under 2k output impedance, it can drive the 20k pot. More non needed circuitry isn't good economy neither for the pocket nor for the resolution.
Ebay 20 K pot from above ebay link Is very Interesting
anyone tried It
are resistors good
I haven't tried it yet but I am thinking in ordering one. Don't know about resistor's quality, I wouldn't expect them to be high-end, just plain standard resistors. But for that price, it's difficult not to try it.

I've ordered one and intend on using it while I work on a LightSpeed volume control. I'm eventually going to try and make the LS/buffer combination remote controlled by using something like this:
ALPS Quad Potentiometer RK27114MC motorized pot 10K 50K
Or one of these might work well too,
ALPS 25K Motorized Potentiometer

Almost any resistors are much better than any high end pot with slide contact.
More important question is - how good are switch/ contacts, and how long it works in good quality.
Some time ago here was talk about Chinesian pots, look like blue alps, but stepped inside. Normal resistors, but switch was - PCB with slide contact, I don't think it may last long in normal quality.
Anyone opened this Ebay pot?
